The restaurant was just fine. Went pretty excited but each of the dishes felt like it only landed close to the mark and wasn't really a hit. We tried the "envies" menu to try the things the chef was trying to highlight but some of them felt a little lost. Mushroom app, while good, had maybe just a few too many mushrooms (some of them being unseasoned raw sliced button mushrooms) and didn't have enough raspberries or seasoning to balance it out. Some bites were great, some were just raw sliced mushrooms.
The lobster ravioli was the highlight of the evening.
The main (chicken breast and octopus) was all very well cooked but it felt like someone made 5 good components and just put them on the one plate rather than a cohesive dish. Roasted pumpkin and pumpkin puree kind of melded together and both could have done with more seasoning, and the hazelnut mousse kind of took over it's bites.
Dessert was much the same where it felt like there were one or two too many elements on the plate (prunes, blueberries, hazelnut chocolate sauce, a large macaron, lemon curd, a cream component, and probably something I'm forgetting.
Service and atmosphere were good although nothing exceptional. Based on some other reviews this may be a restaurant to consider if you're in Dijon as the prices are good for the calibre of food they're targeting, but there were definitely some missteps on the...
Read moreWe were looking forward to a lovely evening at DZ’envies, especially since the restaurant is listed in the Michelin guide. Unfortunately, the overall experience fell far short of expectations. • Wine service: The white wine was served too warm, and throughout the entire evening, no one came by to top up our glasses. We had to refill our own drinks – absolutely disappointing for a restaurant of this category. • Service at the table: While someone came by during the starter to ask if everything was fine, no one checked in during the main course. My filet mignon was cooked “well done” instead of “medium.” In such a situation, I would have expected the chef to come out personally, apologize immediately, and not for the staff to casually ask afterward if I would like a coffee or digestif – once the damage had already been done. • Overall experience: A restaurant listed in the Michelin guide should not only impress with its food but also with the entire service experience, the attentiveness of the staff, and the way mistakes are handled. • Hospitality: If dogs are welcome, the very least would be to offer a bowl of water – to show that all guests are truly made to feel comfortable.
Overall, the evening was not what one would expect from a restaurant of this category. There is significant room for improvement in terms of service quality and...
Read moreI have never left a negative restaurant review but you must know…Apparently the chef/owner has changed. I ordered a bottle of wine which did not come until after my starter when I finally reminded them. My starter was simply vegetables which they told me (when I asked) were cold but they were extremely watery and warmish. They were much and tasteless so I had to ask for salt and pepper which is usually considered rude in France. I had the bœuf bourgogne which had about 3 bites of meet and was completely tasteless with a very thin broth, and trust me, I have had BB dozens of times in France. The mashed potatoes were gelled so I ordered frites (at additional cost). They were ok but under cooked. I had crème brûlée for dessert but it was undercooked and the sugar crust was mushy (supposed to be crisp and a spoon needed to crack it). I asked for my check and the waitress pouted to the cash register. Unexpected for a nice restaurant. I looked up and there were 5 or so patrons trying to pay. The holdup was an unhappy customer. The best hotel in town recommended this place to me. I’m thinking they have no idea that it has changed hands. This is Dijon, home to bœuf bourgogne. Go...
