I recently had the unfortunate opportunity to dine at La Maschou, and I must say that it was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. Not only was the service subpar, but the establishment also exhibited clear signs of racial bias, particularly towards individuals of Arab descent.
From the moment we walked in, the staff seemed disinterested and unwelcoming. It took an unnecessarily long time for someone to acknowledge our presence and seat us. Once seated, we were promptly handed menus with minimal explanation of the dishes or any recommendations. It was evident that the staff lacked the enthusiasm and knowledge that one would expect from a reputable restaurant.
When we placed our orders, the problems only multiplied. The food arrived well past the expected waiting time, and it was clear that our dishes had been poorly prepared. The flavors were dull, and the ingredients lacked freshness. Even basic items like bread and water were forgotten, despite repeated requests to different members of the staff. It seemed as if our table had been intentionally neglected, which only added to the growing frustration.
What shocked me even more than the poor service and food quality was the subtle yet evident racial bias present at La Maschou. Throughout our meal, I noticed several instances where the staff treated customers of Arab descent differently. They seemed to prioritize and cater to non-Arab customers, leaving those of us from Middle Eastern backgrounds feeling marginalized and discriminated against. It was a deeply distressing experience, and I cannot emphasize enough how unacceptable and offensive such behavior is.
In addition to the racial bias, the overall atmosphere of the restaurant was underwhelming. The ambiance was lacking, with minimal effort put into creating a comfortable and inviting space. The tables were crowded closely together, making it difficult to have private conversations. The lack of attention to detail in the decor only further detracted from the dining experience.
Given the combination of poor service, low-quality food, and clear racial bias, I strongly advise against dining at La Maschou. It is disheartening to see such behavior from a restaurant that should embrace diversity and strive for excellence. As a customer, I believe in supporting establishments that value inclusivity and provide outstanding service, and unfortunately, La Maschou fails on both counts.
I urge individuals of all backgrounds to choose a different restaurant, one that appreciates and respects all...
Read moreI’m giving the place 2 stars for the food which is great every time but other than that I was so bothered by the hostess. Her attitude is rude and belittling. I booked a table a couple of weeks in advance and the place was empty by the time we came but despite all that she sat us in the worst table possible. When you come to talk to her she walks away and doesn’t respond. After 30 minutes she came to take our orders and didn’t even let us ask questions, she rushed us and was rude and mentioned the extras on the menu as “sides in traditional menu” which isnt (I feel like its a way to get extra money out of guests). She later started to seat parties of 6 in a table for 4 and continued to seat all the arabs inside in tables that clearly dont fit the actual party. At first i thought the place might be full outside but it wasn’t! I feel her tactics are racist cause I noticed her attitude with other guests (who are non arabs) and she seemed welcoming and nice! At the end she handed us a bill with 200 euro extra than our order and when we clarified it with her she just pulled the bill from us and handed us our true bill that was with her the whole time!!!!! It saddens me that the food is great and the servers (other than the host) are really nice but I won’t be coming back if they...
Read more\gave it a 5star in april (miptv) as usual and tried to pre reserve for may trip already. So saddened by my experience after 25+ years of coming to le maschou, 2-3x/year ....usually my favorite restaurant in cannes (5star fantastic), i was Last here in miptv april 2022. but suddenly Now for cannes filmfest they require 200eu EACH PERSON prepayment for table of 3. So disproportionate, so for the first time i will pass/not visit in 25+ years, such a bizarre policy., hence my lowered rating based on change of customer service/customer relationships/price-value relationship. Still Love the restaurant but really was shocked by the new precondition - it seems to now favor big companies with big expense accounts with no room anymore for the longtimer loyal but independent indie customers.... i'll be back i hope, not during cannes, but i wonder if this is something intended, ??to turn away/lose the longtimer customers for this new huge $$ policy that takes the joy out of it before you get there. Ironically we probably spend lots when there, but this was prohibitive especially for 3 or 4 people.Several email and calls on it without response, just a 'take it or leave it' attitude. Perhaps not the most longterm loyalty...
