Le Petit Central - Trouville-sur-Mer — Restaurant in Lisieux

The food was good but the experience was the worst we have ever had.

We only speak English, German and very basic french so we ordered carefully from the menu pointing and saying the words on the menu- two salads and calamari. Pretty straightforward. Unfortunately the waiter was much more interested in dancing around than listening to our order. A few minutes later he arrived back again to double check our order. Then our order arrived without the Caesar salad ordered.

He was no where to be found so we asked a friendly waitress to rectify the order. We did not mind about the error. However, the man arrived back giving out to us in French in full view of a packed restaurant. He seemed to think that the failure on our side was due to our miscommunication event though Caesar salad is the SAME in french and English of course. He then proceeded to complain loudly to the other customers in French about our lack of French. Then he mocked us saying “Hello I speak English” over and over. Very upset about the interaction. A disappointing meal, especially after reading all the good reviews. Service was very friendly and attentive, which was nice. My husband and I both were ready for a break from seafood, which was a mistake here. He had the fried smelt as an entree, which was copious and he said was fine. I had the chevre salad, where the chevre had no flavor and the few walnuts in it were well past their prime. As plats, my husband, who is fond of andouillette, had it and said it was terrible, the worst he'd ever had. I had the chicken, which was fine.

Irish tourist with my wife and dog. This is the first negative experience I’ve had in Normandy. I don’t speak French and the waiter didn’t speak English, so I politely pointed to what I ordered. They mixed up the order so I mentioned this another waiter who was nearby. The original waiter then storms out and, in French, dismisses what I had said. He then jokes to the other clients in French and the other waiter then gives me a neck massage as to calm down? We’re Irish and are always respectful of other people. Show some respect to your...
