Considering this is a Michelin starred haute cuisine restaurant in the fine dining capital of the world, we had fairly high expectations for our dinner here. We unfortunately left quite disappointed.
We had the "menu découverte" and the food was decent, but for the most part it was far from fantastic. The frogs legs was the stand out dish, and that was truly delicious and exciting. Everything else was nice but definitely didn't have that "wow factor" I'd expect at this type of restaurant.
Wine pairings again were nice but not amazing. The server was quite sloppy with his pours, and gave absolutely minimal information about the wines (though that may have been a language barrier).
The service was probably the biggest disappointment. Waiters bumping into each other, confused about who had delivered what, brining out the next wine before we'd finished the last... Maybe they were trying to get everyone out so they could go watch the rugby! The atmosphere is fairly sterile so the fumbling waiters did not pair well with this!
If you're expecting a fantastic experience I would suggest doing further research past the Michelin guide, as anyone with experience at truly great fine dining establishments will leave here disappointed. You're better off spending a fraction of the cost at a high end bistro with great reviews.
3 stars for the food (considering the type of establishment), 2 stars over all once the service is...
Read moreTruly sorry to give a 2 Stars review but my experience with Auguste' staff has been dreadful. So see this rating out of anger as looking at the plates, it looks absolutely fine. Here is my story : I called last week to order a gift card for $250. The gentleman who responded told me to call back the next day at 11 am and ask for Mathias. So I did....2 days in a row, no one would pick up. Today, I left my office to come to their restaurant and buy my gift (pay with my cc and get a note : Bon pour 2 repas d'une valeur de $250). I showed up at 1.15.....rush hour...I was greeted by a waiter who immediately told me Mathias was busy and come back the next day....Obviously I was not happy with his suggestion, which I replied " Je veux bien etre gentil mais..." I did not even finish my sentence that the gentleman look at me in the eyes and told me "je veux bien etre gentil too but ........" with a high sense of entitlement as opposed to empathy. I asked to talk to his manager......in that case Mathias showed up promptly and told me the only way to order a gift card is online. I asked him why the person who picked up the phone last week did not tell me so....his answer was, I don't know he must be an intern......No apologies, nothing just ....Fxxx Oxx basically. For a Michelin restaurant, this is completely unacceptable. If you are the manager, happy to...
Read moreWent here for a birthday dinner. Had the lunch tasting menu with seriously limited options. Service was poor. They give you a small glass of wine for 22 euro supplement and even smaller one for an 18 euro supplement. This is France and the same bottles go for 9 euros. I have never seen a 100 ml serving and they were miserly about that too. Onto the food, the starter was very average, not fitting of the Michelin guide, never mind a star. The main course was chicken and it was so dry in parts and undercooked in parts that we didn't finish it and they didn't replace it with something edible. The waiter just said they will inform the kitchen and then brough us out dessert which was inedible again. No inventiveness, no choice ingredients, no quality. Thank God we came for lunch so we spent only a 100 euros a person. I would have burnt the €200 and it would have been more satisfying. I am still sat in the toilet two days after eating here. I think Michelin decided to troll us by giving stars to anybody who tried to cook or just had a french sounding name and can chill in a kitchen. Damn. Even the baguettes were inedible. Thank God, I don't live in Paris because if I did I would report this restaurant as a hate crime to french food and...
