UPDATE: Came back for lunch but missed the lunch rush as we lost track of time whilst shopping. Met the owner Paul's lovely wife who is his business partner and just as wonderful as him. To catch this place in its true form, be sure to arrive between 12pm-2pm. For lunch, I went all out since I was absolutely starved. They did not disappoint. If you look at my pictures which are drool worthy, the food tasted just as good as it looks. Paul explained that they do not have freezers. Everything is sourced locally, fresh and offered that day which is what makes this place so special. The menu is fluid for this reason with a lot of wonderful surprises depending on what Paul got from the market that day. I cannot express how happy I was to find this place. It was the best way to end the trip before heading back home to Canada. Thank you so much Bartoque!!! I will be back with all my friends. ‐------------------- Went here for dinner tonight after searching for a true Parisian local spot that locals enjoy and voila. Unfortunately it isn't active during dinner but the owner was SO kind to allow us to stay and suggested dishes he can put together for us. 1. Great vibes! Owner was friendly and helpful. We would come back just based on how personable he was. 2. Food went above and beyond my expectations! There isn't a set menu per se but if you tell him what you enjoy, he will recommend a dish he can put together for you. You won't regret it. 3. Pricing is very fair. No tourist prices here! 4. Did I already say the food is incredible? Lol well it is. So much so that we want to go back for lunch tomorrow to experience the restaurant in its true lunch time hustle and bustle glory. Absolutely would recommend this family run place to anyone and their mother. However, if you are in a rush or unable to be polite enough to enjoy this local experience then you should pass on this true hidden gem in Paris.

This is a gem of a French restaurant. From the moment we walked in, the warmth and friendliness of the staff made us feel right at home. Despite our attempts at French, they were incredibly kind and accommodating, enhancing the welcoming atmosphere.😂 The culinary journey was nothing short of spectacular. We started with a selection of wines that were recommended to us, each pairing perfectly with our meal. The swordfish was cooked to perfection, offering a taste that was both delicate and richly flavored. The pasta, a delightful surprise, was beautifully complemented by its sauce. The chocolate cake and espresso for dessert rounded off the meal superbly, with the cake's rich, indulgent flavor leaving us completely satisfied. It's rare to find a place that hits all the right notes like this one does - from the exceptional food to the impeccable service. A 5-star experience through and through. This restaurant is a must-visit for anyone wanting to indulge in the best of French cuisine, served with genuine care and expertise. Bravo to the chef and the entire waitstaff for making our afternoon unforgettable.

As I prepare to leave Paris after four years of having the chance to live and work in this glorious city, one of the things I will miss the most is my favorite neighborhood restaurant, Bartoque. The chef and his wife, who capably and cheerfully run Bartoque, along with their excellent team in the kitchen and the front of the house have built something special where you can be assured to have a well-prepared, superbly-sourced meal served with a smile and an ample taste of the best side of France--the warm and convivial people.

In a city with more than 10,000 restaurants, this is a gem where you can find a reasonably-priced meal in a luxury neighborhood--something as rare as a Birkin bag at the HermĂšs store nearby. If you come for lunch, make a reservation, or come for the second seating around 1300. Their loyal repeat customers (most of whom are French, which says a lot about the quality of their food and service) fill the seats every day for the first round starting at noon. Dinner is a more relaxed affair, though reservations are always a good idea.

Don't worry, Anglophones, they speak English and look forward to meeting all of you when you come in to eat. That said, you may be asking yourself why I have waited until now to review Bartoque. The answer is simple: I wanted to keep this place all to myself! Bonne...
