We had the most horrible experience at Basilic Thai today evening. We were a group of 7 including 3 kids . As soon as we reached the restaurant and were ready to order we made it very clear that we are all vegetarians and accordingly placed our order specifying vegetables and tofu for every dish. We were served all the dishes and we liked the pad thai(vegetarian) and we requested for another helping of the same.
Meanwhile in the 20 minutes we had been at the restauraunt the woman attending to our table was not paying any attention, whenever we asked her for any additional dish/ cutlery she would walk past ignoring us and we had to wait for a long time before she decided to return. When my husband said if they had ‘mango with sticky rice’ on the menu, she was pretty abrupt in saying that she would share the dessert menu later and we can look then.
When she returned with 2nd helping of pad Thai, kids started helping themselves, and then suddenly one person from our group pointed out that this serving had meat in it. We figured it was beef. We shared this and politely expressed our displeasure at how we were given a beef dish despite us making it clear we are vegetarians and the prior order of same dish was vegetarian. We decided to leave the premises and went down to the counter to pay.
The person at counter and the woman who served us insisted that since we had already eaten from the dish they couldn’t take the charge off - they insisted they would only remove the charge for beef and we would have to pay for a ‘vagetarian pad Thai’. We were aghast at their insensitivity of serving beef to Hindu vegetarian people and being unapologetic about it. We did not make much noise and that led to them also charging us for this!
I explained several times how upsetting it was for vegetarians like us to have had this experience but they were deaf & insensitive to our situation and tried telling us instead how they have charged us for a vegetarian pad Thai and not meat despite serving beef Pad Thai!! (Note they did take the charge off when my husband firmly shared how we felt about this)
We are appalled that in this day and age such is the level of service and insensitivity to other people. This was our only negative experience during 15 days in France, and clearly this place needs more exposure on how to serve and handle vegetarians & be sensitive to other cultures.
------Adding my comments today on 7/6/2024 in view of your response to my initial review----------------
To errr is human but to not reflect on your action, not accepting mistake graciously & instead fabricating lies is inhuman and insensitive. We only discovered there was meat in the dish after our 6 year old (who has never eaten meat ever) had eaten some part of the noodles and found meat below the noodles. Also let me remind you that not even once we said we didn't want to pay for the food we consumed & only countered the charge of that single meat dish you wrongly served us. While you repeatedly told us how you were doing us a "favor" by not charging the 2 Euros extra for the beef Pad Thai instead of vegetarian Pad Thai!
For Hindus who have never consumed meat in their life this was the biggest affront. Your denial of mistake, insensitivity towards the issue and clear misrepresentation is a big testimony to your continued...
Read moreI had an amazing dining experience at Basilic Thai in Paris! From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was warm and inviting, with a lovely blend of traditional Thai decor and modern touches. The service was exceptional—friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu.
The food was absolutely incredible! Pad Thai and thai curry were a standout—authentic, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. Every dish we tried was a delicious journey of bold flavors and fresh ingredients.
What really impressed me was the attention to detail in both the presentation and taste. It's clear that the chefs at Basilic Thai take pride in their craft. The atmosphere, coupled with top-tier Thai cuisine, made for a truly memorable meal.

Read moreThis restaurant has some of the best Thai food we have ever eaten, and we have eaten Thai food all over the world, including of course in Thailand. We would actually say this is one of the top 3 meals we enjoyed in Paris. Generous portions, delicious flavors, excellent mix of vegetables herbs and spices with each dish. We loved the duck green curry, the scallops yellow curry, the mussels red curry, and the grilled sea bass. If this restaurant were local to our neighborhood we would be here at least once a week. Lovely, caring, warm and attentive service in a beautiful environment, though some staff does not speak or understand English, quite understandably. You can’t go wrong here; we are impressed and can’t wait to return to eat another devastatingly delicious meal...
