A Sunday morning mooch around the area where my hotel is and I came across the Cafe Saint-Placide. From the outside it looks like many other cafes you would find in Paris and the inside decor also looks pretty similar. But what makes this place stand out is the warm welcome from staff and great atmosphere you feel as soon as you step foot inside. The menu (available in both French and English) is simple and unfussy. Ordering is very easy and there is no waiting. I ordered the Supreme petit dejeuner and wasn't disappointed with any of the food that came out. There was so much of it as well - it filled my table! The staff are great - attentive but not to the point that they hound you and very friendly. The place is a mix for local Parisians as well as tourists. From the older generation reading their newspaper and having coffee to the younger families with their children enjoying a great breakfast. Overall I'd definitely recommend this cafe to anyone in the area - whether it is just for a coffee...
Read moreWe went here twice during our stay across the street at the Hotel Aramis. This place is pretty unassuming from the outside. And it’s pretty small on the inside. There’s a bar and a restaurant area and I believe there’s only two waiters. Or maybe it’s one waiter and one bus person. The menu is pretty short, but very French bistro. The food was excellent and quick to come out and the house wine just right. The waiters spoke passable English. They were quite kind to our horrible French. My five-year-old loved his burger for dinner and his spaghetti for lunch. My sister had the duck comfy, which she was very happy about. My husband had a cheeseburger and he liked that very much as well. My son also loved his crêpes that came with his meal.
I should note that for such a small restaurant it’s quite busy and somehow these two waiters/service people somehow managed that crowd very skillfully...
Read moreI am quite disappointed. I had good souvenir of last year of this place. Early in the morning, I had just 10 mins free to spend. I made a misteake to oder at bar a coffe to go quickly, no time to stay at table. Already I felt not welcome, no smile & Co.... In the same time I asked clearly if they have fresh pressed orange juice, and the answer was yes. I turned my head and quickly I saw that he poured a common commercial bottle orange juice. I made the remark about it that I asked a fresh Orange Pressed Orange Juice and the answer was " we do not have time to do so ". Sad. I just dropped the argument, I did not want start my day arguing with some one. If you are not able to serve at bar because you do not have time, just said so politely, It would be nice, and I will go away.....really sad It ruined me a beautiful souvenir of a lunch that we had with my...
