CHEZ HL — Restaurant in Paris

I decided to visit this restaurant after seeing its high rating (4.7) and 700+ reviews, and I was really looking forward to trying it. However, the overall experience did not quite meet my expectations.

The restaurant is located on a small side street and is quite compact. The interior and atmosphere are simple, and while the place feels casual, it could benefit from some improvements in cleanliness and presentation. Service was polite but basic.

Here is what we ordered:

Guo Bao Rou (Sweet and Sour Pork) ⭐️⭐️❌❌❌

This was the first dish served. The sauce was much more watery than expected, which affected both the texture and flavor. The taste was average.

Seafood Tofu Pot ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❌

Similar in style to the first dish, it also came with a watery sauce. The flavor was mild—not bad, but not memorable.

Braised Pork Trotters ⭐️⭐️❌❌❌

The presentation was a bit plain and the dish was quite salty for my taste.

Dumpling Potstickers ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❌

These seemed to be made from frozen dumplings rather than freshly prepared.

Stir-fried Beef Rice Noodle ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❌

This dish had decent flavor but was on the salty side.

Stir-fried Spinach ⭐️⭐️⭐️❌❌

The taste was okay, though the spinach was slightly tough and again a bit salty.

Considering the overall quality, I felt the prices were somewhat high. While I appreciate the effort from the staff, I personally might not return. However, I understand tastes vary, and others may enjoy this style of cooking...

En résumé : service à revoir, peu commerçant alors qu'ils sont en tort, plats bons mais rien d'extraordinaires et en petites quantités. Passez votre chemin il y a beaucoup mieux dans la même rue

C'est un petit restaurant avec peu de tables donc étant une table de 6 un samedi soir, nous prenons le soin de réserver à l'avance. Alors que nous arrivons à l'heure, ils se rendent compte qu'ils avaient oublié notre réservation et avaient déjà donné notre table ! Ils nous font patienter et disent que la table sera prête dans 20 mn, et nous font attendre dehors dans le froid en janvier alors que la dite table était en plein milieu de leur repas.. Au final nous attendons 40 minutes avant d'être tous installés. Les serveuses sont débordées, de vagues excuses peu sinceres et pas de geste commercial à part une mini théière de thé en sachet pour 6 personnes... Vu le nombre de clients dont surtout une clientèle chinoise ils ne sentent pas le besoin d'être serviable, loin des autres restaurants asiatiques que je connais.

Concernant la nourriture, il manquait la moitié de la carte. Sur les 7 plats commandés, 4 étaient bons, et 3 étaient OK mais vraiment sans plus, j'aurais presque pu faire pareil chez moi. La (mauvaise) surprise était surtout la quantité, ce sont des plats à partager et nous avons peiné à tous en avoir. Le restaurant n'est pas particulièrement cher mais à ce prix j'attends quand même une qualité et une quantité qui n'étaient au rendez vous.

Pour l'atmosphère, cantine chinoise bruyante mais c'est classique pour ce type de restaurant donc pas de bonne ou mauvaise surprise.

Great food options, prices, convenient location and amazing cuisine. Delicious food, friendly service and reasonable prices. We sat outside too which was very nice on a sunny, pleasant day. Very happy to find and to have been able to try Sichuan/Chonqqing cuisine during the visit to Paris. good drink options too.
