Lets get the basics out of the way first. We knew very well that this was a pricey place. We had the "famous" roast chicken with the fries - this was our only food. I figured a whole chicken for 2 was enough at lunch. Canadians have a roast chicken culture, coast to coast chains specialize in just that, so maybe I'm jaded or biased. The chicken was very good, but not the best meal you'll eat in Pairs by far. The fries i might sell a child for. Bread and butter was also good.
Ambiance.. meh, i'm pretty sure the tablecloths were the same material as an 80's junior bridesmaids outfit I had: peach overload. The fruit set up was very nice though. You will smell of roast chicken when you leave and for hours after.
HOWEVER and here's where my caution begins, if the price is not listed ASK. You are brought a tome of a wine list. Maybe 40-50 pages. It was lunch so we simply asked for a glass of white. I have never had a GLASS (yes one) of white wine cost €26!! Thats $39 Canadian. For one glass. (Keep reading it gets better)
I have had espresso in Michelin starred restaurants - and L'Ami Louis is not one. You expect to pay a premium in those kinds of places... but €9? Thats highway robbery.
I left feeling rather used, like i was paying a tourist tax because they didn't want us there. Considering there were only two tables, including us, occupied- they could do worse than some bougie foodies.
In short, I would strongly suggest you could have TWO better meals in Paris for what this...
Read moreFood Poisoning. I went to Chez l'Ami Louis 2 weeks ago with my mother to celebrate her visit in Paris. We had our dinner,, we ordered fois gras, a salad and the cote de boeuf. The service was quite slow but the portions were very generous. At the end of the meal I asked for a doggie bag for the fois gras and the cote de boeuf, which they kindly gave to me. On the taxi home I started feeling bad, I was sweating a lot and was in so much pain that when I got in front of my door I fainted trying to open it. I have spent the next 2 days at home going back and forth between bed and bathroom. My mother didn't faint but felt pretty bad too. A few days later I went back there to tell the manager about it and guessing that the problem might have been the fois gras. He told me that it was impossible, saying that they are very careful about it, stating that they don't even allow customers to do doggy bags with it, which is not true since I got it myself.w Really bad experience and disappointing that they would rather lie to me than admit their mistake and apologise. All...

After hearing about the restaurant from known food bloggers, we made a reservation via our 4 star hotel, got there even 10 minutes ahead of time. But was told that the reservation was canceled because the hotel never reconfirmed the reservation at the same day.
As we wanted to have a chance to enjoy the restaurant we asked if we can be sited but were told that the restaurant was fully booked for the next few weeks (while it was totally empty). Hence we had to go and look for a different place to eat.
Furthermore, when we returned to the hotel, we understood that our reservation was reconfirmed on the same day as required!
Hence from some reason (which perhaps better off not detail here) the staff as well as owner have lied to us, and caused us to go back.
We saw that we are not the only ones that had a very smilier experience.
Paris has so much to offer, so don't waste your time at going to where clients are...
