Beware – This might be one of those tourist traps you'd find around busy spots in any major city.

I visited Chez Marguerite in February 2025 and had an extremely disappointing experience involving a deliberate overcharging and a lack of transparency.

A server named Chloé charged my credit card more than expected and withheld both the detailed bill and the card payment receipt, citing a "technical issue." Suspicious, I took photos of the menu and later verified the discrepancy. When I emailed the restaurant, Jerome—the "entrepreneur"—acknowledged that the overcharge was intentional, explicitly accepting that it was a theft. However, he showed little concern and did not proactively offer any compensation for what was, without question, a serious issue at his establishment.

When I requested a full refund—as I was not comfortable supporting a business that allowed this—Jerome became defensive. Instead of addressing the issue directly, he listed his operational costs (rent, electricity, inventory) as if they justified the intentional overcharge. When I suggested that he recover the amount from the responsible employee so that he wouldn't incur a loss, he ignored the proposal entirely. The lack of response on this proposal showed me how leniently the entrepreneur took this serious matter.

Jerome later claimed to have fired Chloé for "faute grave" (serious misconduct) on February 26. However, reviews as recent as today (30 March) mention Chloe's name, with the restaurant itself responding to these reviews. If she was truly dismissed last month, why would new customers still know, and let alone reference, her by name!? This makes it difficult to trust the Jerome's handling of the situation and in fact seems as though he actively supports this act.

After much back and forth, Jerome eventually agreed to refund my full bill—but only after I informed him that I would be sharing my experience in detail on Google. Additionally, he asked me not to step foot in his restaurant, which was contradictory, as he later insisted I pick up my refund in person, despite already having my bank details for a transfer. Given the circumstances, expecting a customer to return to the restaurant to resolve an issue like this seems unreasonable.

To make matters worse, when I provided proof of my payment, Jerome dismissed it by accusing me of possibly 'picking up the document from another table'. This was surprising, considering I had already provided multiple details about my visit to him. As the conversation continued, he shifted focus, calling my request for a refund unfair and misrepresenting the situation as an attack on him and his business.

When I finally sent him the official transaction details I obtained from my bank via a tracked email, he has opened the email multiple times but never bothered to respond nor refund the money.

At this point, I have serious doubts about whether this was an isolated incident or a recurring issue. The lack of accountability and the defensive response from the 'entrepreneur' suggest that customers should be cautious when dining here. I hope this review helps at least a few visitors make an informed decision and avoid this place.

To the restaurant: This review remains regardless of whether you refund me now. You have my email. If I don’t receive a confirmation of the refund by the 2nd April, I will explore further options, including reaching out to parties relevant to your business to share my experience. I have also noticed similar reviews mentioning overcharging issues, which raises concerns about whether this was truly an accident or part of a larger pattern - and I am convinced of the latter.

Additionally, I am in contact with a well-known European YouTuber who discusses and exposes problematic consumer experiences in tourist-heavy areas. I will be sharing all relevant details, including our email exchanges, with...

Excellent food, friendly service and unbeatable prices.

As a former Parisian now living abroad, going here with the family this week for dinner was a proper treat. French staples such as “œufs mayonnaise”, lentil salad (at only EUR3!) or poireaux vinaigrette are a great way to start. For mains, we had a Parmentier and a Boeuf bourguignon which are also classics incredibly well executed and shared Marguerite’s take on “le tigre qui pleure”, a delicious Thai-style beef dish served simply with rice, delicious. Note the wine is also good and very fairly priced. Don’t skip dessert, the profiteroles are a killer (the dark chocolate+vanilla ice cream+chou combo is addictive). We also tried the crème brûlée as well as the red fruit pavlova and all around, we thought “chapeau”, well done team. Special mention for Florent who is lively, kind and had a good sense of humour. He also brought us a drink on the house as the end of the dinner made by the bartender who made his version of a “rhum arrangé” from the Antilles with rum, vanilla, cinnamon and lemon. Four of us, a bottle and 2 glasses of wine, 3 appetizers, 4 mains, 3 desserts and endless memories for the equivalent of EUR30 each, pretty dumbfounding! We sat outside on the terrace which isn’t noisy despite being in the boulevard, likely helps that it was August. Thanks for a great experience, we will definitely...

A Lucky Find in Montmartre! We happened to dine here on the evening of June 26, 2025, after a lovely stroll through Montmartre.

At first, we weren’t thrilled about sitting indoors—it was quite crowded and all the outdoor tables had already been reserved. Because of that, we had to wait a bit longer than expected (in fact, a group of three even left due to the long wait before getting to order). It was a bit frustrating, but honestly understandable given how packed the place was.

The staff, despite being super busy, remained friendly and accommodating, which we really appreciated.

Then came the surprise: the prices! Very reasonable—beefsteaks ranged from just €3 to €17. And the food? Absolutely delicious.

I’d give this place a solid 5 stars (though if I’m being cheeky, I’d knock off one star for the wait 😄).

All in all, it’s definitely a spot worth trying in Montmartre: friendly service, tasty food, and great value for money. Highly...

Chez Marguerite was an absolutely wonderfull experience, I speak little french and the two lovely waitress were more then accomodating to my (english) needs. Atmosphere was lovely at lunch time not terribly loud, easy enough to converse with my partner. Now the food.. Amazing!, Onion soup had was deconstructed with bread and cheese seperate. The bread was soft not toasted and the cheese a classic french guyerre. The soup was full a flavour with a ratio of onion more then usually expected. A great twist on a classic dish. The Beef bourguignon was absolutely amazing and is probably the reason i was compelled to leave review. Beef was so tender that it fell apart to the touch, carrots perfectly cooked to match with the stock adding a amazing full flavour that tantalised the tastebuds. The combination with the pasta is new to me, but i found it made it a much lighter meal but still satisfying enough to be full.
