Ate here today on a brief stop in montmartre to see what the area was about after reading all the great reviews about the sandwiches and fries. The fries were good, and I had the Aztec sandwich, which was sort of half-toasted like a grilled cheese, but not correctly, poorly spiced, and pretty bland overall. I made one request, that the coriander be left off. My request was acknowledged, and five minutes later the sandwich arrived with a huge sprig of coriander on it. Fresh coriander (cilantro) tastes like soap to me, so it's not like I had an allergy and it would kill me or anything, but it wasn't a complicated request.
There is no cell reception in the place, and they want you to log in to their wifi, scan a QR code on your table, and interact with them mostly through that, including ordering and paying. I had figured out what I wanted before I came in, so I ordered it, and payed way more than I needed to because I was unaware that there was a daily special formula. I only know about it now because it was presented to the couple sitting next to me. It was never mentioned to me, and the menu I picked up from the counter behind me when I came in was snatched from my hand before I could even get a peek at it.
The fries were good, as was the beer, which at 8€ for a half liter (offered to me as a pint) is the single most expensive beer I've bought in three months of dining out in Europe.
Perhaps the thing I liked least about the place was the sense that they're in the business mainly of turning tables, and my meal felt rushed, even though nobody chased me out. Their clientele seems to be mostly American tourists, so I guess that's part of the problem. You can read my other reviews to see that I don't bother reviewing a ton of stuff and don't normally give bad reviews, but I felt like this was worth sharing. I was...
Read moreDisappointing is the best word to describe it. Inedible as well. We had 2 Greening Croque Monsieur, and had waited all of our trip to find a good place for one of these sandwiches. This seemed like it from the reviews and the look of everyone’s meals. Unfortunately it was not, for us at least. Firstly, we were never given water at the table until we asked after ordering…even though every other table had water. Everyone was busy so I understand, but still was surprised. After a bit of a wait, our lunch came out and the bread was so hard we could barely bite through it. I thought it might crack a tooth. To the point where I Googled if croque monsieur was meant to be hard bread. It was also near impossible to cut through the bread with a knife even. The filler was okay, but did not come with the poached egg we ordered on them from what I could see. I’ve worked in hospitality and restaurants for a long time so I don’t like to complain unnecessarily about food but it was very surprising given the reviews. and it seemed like in the photos and other peoples sandwiches they looked toasty but not hardened bread. We paid because we are most of the insides of the sandwiches, and the plates were cleared while we were still there and we were both surprised that the staff didn’t think to ask of everything was okay when the bread was still left on the plate for both sandwiches. I don’t know if the bread was toasted and then sat out for a while since the food took a bit to come out or what, but we definitely couldn’t eat the sandwich as intended, especially for...
Read moreOn our last day in Paris we were walking around Montmartre visiting the street market and browsing shops. We'd checked out Fric Frac online just after twelve ( when it opens) we headed over. The place was already almost full, so popular and well known amongst locals and tourists.
They very kindly managed to squeeze us in. A bottle of water and glasses delivered by our server who explained the menu, ordering and paying were all via a QR Code/ website.
We checked out the menu and ordered, as we were the last table we imagined there'd be a wait. But as we sat and chatted there was almost a constant ding from the kitchen bell as the sandwiches rolled out to hungry diners.
We'd all ordered the same - The Mam'zelle - 5-grain bread, cloth-cooked ham, Mornay béchamel, Grand Cru Emmental and a soft-boiled egg.
With a side order of Fries obviously. The Fries were crispy hot and arrived as an entree.
Then after a short wait our sandwiches came. There were delicious, the cheese, the sauce and egg, all provided a yummy base for the ham. A hearty sandwich indeed and ir certainly filled us up.
The prices here are reasonable and there's a good range to choose from, by keeping it simple there's not a long wait and the consistency is on the money.
If your in the area it's a great place...
