Edit September 14: Last time here I bought a couple of bags of anaerobic coffee to take home. They were great! I thought I would come buy some.
Very different experience this time. Staff was friendly, efficient, not chit-chatty, busy, but friendly enough. English spoken. I ordered a V60, and it was superb. I did not order food, nor use the toilet. I did however buy 3 bags of coffee to take home.
I changed the morning ating from 2 to 4, I will be back.
I wanted to like it! This place comes highly recommended. They have many varieties of speciality coffees, even multiple anaerobic processes. But I digress...here is my experience.
Lots of outdoor seating, limited indoor. Washroom was a little difficult to access, but functional and clean.
Small service area 5 staff who were friendly enough. English spoken.
The guy at the till was new, head to ask someone else the answer to every question that I had this is not bad in itself, what is bad is that when I ask for an aeropress, (on the menu) he has to ask the barrista if he has time to make one. Same for pour over....and sadly the answer is no. Same routine for a sandwich, although they said yes to a grilled cheese.
Cappuccino and grilled cheese. $16.5 EU.
The grilled cheese was superb, with apple and walnut in the melted cheese!.
The Cappuccino was thin with a watery mouth feel -after the first sip- and a little over extracted.
Half an hour later the place is empty. Still no Aeropress :-( I wanted to try some of the beautiful sounding single origin coffees... maybe I'll buy a bag. Pity, I would have bought 4. They are hard to get...
Read moreCoffee is on point but BRUUUUUH this is france what on earth are you guys asking for a tip for ???????? I just spent 6 euros on a coffee and you guys want a tip???? GET REALL !!!!! Get that nonsense of your payment terminal before i go Defcon 4 on yo derrière. All the best,
reply : Thank you for your response, but I remain firm in my stance. While I appreciate your attempt to justify the tipping practice, I find it utterly unreasonable to expect customers to supplement the income of your employees when it's not a standard practice in France.
Your attempt to compare the work of baristas to that of waiters falls flat as they are completely different skill sets, and i would argue that using an electric grinder, tamping (if you guys even do it manually), pulling a shot & steaming milk hardly constitues "skilled work" the workload, pace and degree of customer interaction is also not comparable.
Enfin, It's not my responsibility as a customer to rectify any discrepancies in their wages. If your baristas feel they're not adequately compensated, perhaps you should reassess your business model instead of relying on customer guilt.
Get real man, stop...
Read moreReally good coffee if in the area you should totally go to this place, specially if you like specialty coffee. The End.. If that wasn't enough info and you want more details about our visit though, then keep reading... we were a bit disappointed they didn't have much in terms of African Specialty Coffee that we specialise in, so had the house espresso, cafe's choice of a filter coffee and to go the cold brew, which were all amazing coffees well roasted and highly recommended. Bought a bag of the Wadi, Almaa which is a Yamen Filter Coffee as well as the Nicaragua Aurora Honey which I can't recommend enough, however as usual always, just wish some of it, even a small portion (in particular the filter roasts that takes a bit longer to degas) could be roasted at source to add value and help with the development of the industry locally where the coffee is farmed. Amazing cafe and worth checking out if...
