First off, I cannot say enough good things about the wait staff, they were wonderful and so courteous and professional. My table was also ready the moment I walked in the door, and my wine glass was quickly refilled. The food however, was sadly a disappointment. The chicken with sorrel was my first course, and while the sauces tasted great, the chicken was very dry. The bread was served to me steaming hot, which I appreciated, but it was very hard and one piece in particular was a little burnt. My entree was the veal with Swiss chard, and while the veal itself was not dry at all and tasted fine, it was overall lacking in flavor though. The turnip and Swiss chard were absolutely horrible. Swiss chard is my favorite vegetable and a big reason why I ordered that dish, but it was wilted and extremely bland, worst Swiss chard I've ever had . Once again, the sauces that accompanied the dish were very good. The souffle for dessert just tasted like eggs and was also lacking in flavor. I wouldn't mind coming back here necessarily, I just wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again. The courses were spaced out fairly well, and the prices were reasonable, even if the portions were...
Read moreI am a food reviewer. I'm very lucky to eat great food often, and it's been a long time since I've been wowed by a meal.
This was wow. The restaurant doesn't pretend to be anything other than it is - a 36 seater quintessential Paris bistro with updates on French classics. The menu is a charmingly handwritten on a chalkboard (in French and in English).
Le Pantruche showcase excellent technique in combination with mastery of flavours. Their sauces are as you would expect in France (top notch), and every element on the plate was perfectly executed without being pretentious.
It's an incredible set lunch menu for the quality of food that you get - choose from their cheaper 2 course entree + plate of the day or plate of the day + dessert (€19), or 3 course prix fixe (€39).
Most restaurants fall down at dessert, but not here. The Grand Marnier souffle was outstanding, as was the chocolate mousse with pepper ice cream (so inventive and unexpected!)
I would come back to Paris just to eat here. I'd recommend booking to guarantee yourself a table - the last lunch booking is at 1.45pm.
This is honest, French bistro food...
Read moreA bitter disappointment. Two days ago, we went for lunch at this restaurant, inexplicably listed in the Michelin guide. A Parisian friend of ours had been there two days before and had ordered the fixed menu, but he wasn't satisfied. Confident that he was mistaken, as soon as we sat down for lunch, we were immediately told that the tasting fixed menu was not available. Yet, watching the dishes served to other French diners, it became quite clear that the tasting menu was likely reserved for locals. We waited over 35 minutes for a piece of cod and a duck breast, both of which were served practically cold, and the duck breast was tough and inedible (we only had a taste). To top it off, we ordered two draft beers and were served two bottled beers without any notice. When it came time to pay, only because we were asked, we pointed out all the shortcomings. All we received was a curt “sorry.” They call themselves gourmet, but the word alone...
