My husband and I visited the lovely Phono Museum this past Friday, and are so happy that we stopped in! We ran into the museum while walking through the neighborhood earlier in the week, and were so intrigued that we knew we had to stop in when it was open. We were treated to a wonderful tour of all the history the museum has to offer -- including all of the working models that the museum has collected over the years. We were standing in Paris listening to music that had been recorded over a hundred years ago on wax cylinders -- we were quite literally surrounded by historical sounds and music while standing in the middle of historic Paris itself. One of the owners of the museum provided our tour herself, and she was so knowledgeable about all of the items and what they represented in the history of recorded sound. This was truly one of the highlights of our visit to Paris, and we highly recommend it to anyone...
Read moreThis is one of the best and most unique museums I have visited in Paris . It is comprised of the best items from a private collection of phonographs and their precursors. Starting from an Edison tin foil(!) dictation machine and going forward to the 45 era and jukeboxes ( with maybe an 8 track or two), the museum has an incredibly thorough array of sound machines. They are beautiful to look at, but the truly captivating aspect is that they all work. And you will probably get close to a private tour from the owner/collector, Aro, who is an absolute font of information. Paris has so many great museums with works of great beauty, but most are static experiences. At this museum the works speak to you exactly in the way they did 100 years ago to those audiences. Do not miss this...
Read moreWhat a lovely museum! Visiting the Phono Museum felt like stepping back in time. The collection is fascinating, and what really made the experience special was the staff m, they take the time to explain each instrument in detail, sharing the history and how everything works. Hearing the sounds of the instruments brought the past to life in such a beautiful way. I truly enjoyed my visit and would highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in music, history, or just unique experiences....
