Place called L'auberge des deux ponts. Charming with friendly owner/waiter/chef do-it-all.Family of four had a dinner January 02, 2014. Two entrees, three different mains and two different desserts, not a single one impressed. I think the ingredients were of quite good quality but the issue lies in the 'taste' of the chef. I had an entrée called Aubergine gourmand or similar, a very nice tasty slice of raw salmon with parmesan-like cheese, fresh tasty tomatoes and a completely taste-less giant cooked eggplant.. not bad, but that was the best of the night. Kids got a completely raw burger with lettuce deservedly half-eaten. Knowing children would eat it why serve it only with lettuce..? I had a pasta called l'Ocean with very nice king prawns, scallops and a pleasant raw slice of salmon. The dish was ruined by dry tagliatelle tasting of lemon juice but little else - my suggestion visit Italy and obtain some new ideas. Rump steak poivre was once again as close to completely raw as possible, potatoes half-uncooked. The sauce changed from pepper-cream to blood-pepper-cream, and I could not taste anything other than just that. Creme brullee with a great steamy hot-metal caramelisation on the table show tasted like an egg-pudding with sugar, making me yearn for all the great brullees I have had across the world earlier. Chocolat fondant was tasty but completely uncooked. I get a feeling the owner has strong ideas of how he wants to cook the food, obtains good ingredients, but then does not sufficiently consider the customer. Like visiting a friends's house for a dinner who has great ambitions to cook us a grand dinner but doesn't quite...
Read moreThis was by far one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. The chef was really amazing. He's doing everything on his own, greeting dinners on the door, leading them to their table. Preparing and taking orders. The cook the food and serve it. The decor is very cozy and charming, we sat down at a small table and Claude brought the menu right away. We took our time to order and he was very patient and explained whatever we asked for. After we ordered the wine and bread were served right away. The appetizers where on the table at the right time. And the main dish was server with less than a 5 minutes break. He always offered treats between courses. The dessert was Crème brûlée. The dishes arrived at the table with only sugar on top and few minutes later he came with a hot plate to caramelized the top. It was amazing! The guy was very nice in every way and he made everyone feel at home. The prices are reasonable (23 for 3 course). The food was very good and home like. You should...
Read moreWe had a marvelous time dining at L'auberge Des Deux Ponts. It is a one man operation and if busy I could understand the perception of slow service. We made reservations in the morning. I knew there was nothing on the menu for my vegetarian wife and asked in my very limited French if it was possible to prepare a salad for her. He said yes and asked about fish, eggs and cheese. When we arrived that evening he gladly served her a beautifully prepared salad. My duck confit with pan roasted potatoes and mayonnaise was simple and perfect . I enjoyed the creme brulee presentation but it does raise a big cloud of burnt sugar smoke. I suppose that was the way to do it before the advent of propane torches and it did turn out wonderfully. Overall we had a well prepared delicious meal in a charming spot prepared and served by a chef who seemed to truly enjoy and appreciate our being there. Absolutely go by or call and make reservations and expect to be there for 2 hours or more for dinner as...
