I really can't state how much I love the staff at this restaurant and they go beyond and above in their attempts to please. Largely the food was massively inconsistent and frankly out of date. Let me get to the out of date part first, this reminded me of going to one of the Michelin star restaurants in the 2000's, since than French cuisine has evolved and thankfully simplified to some degree. There's no longer these 30+ flavors on one dish or took precedent over the conception of the dish. This restaurant definitely didn't get that message and it became an issue course to course. I went with the tasting menu with the wine pairing, which either way the wine paired well. First up were the two amuse-bouche's which one was to cleanse your pallet with something to elevate your taste buds and one bring them down to 0 and be fully prepared for the meal, which definitely served their purpose. The first course, I had to ask the waiter how to eat properly which was composed of raw scallops in a very tasty sauce, he told me eat the individual pieces and than mix it. I tried it his way and it didn't really work for me as a dish, it was much much better combined together (this would be a continued theme through the meal). It was good but wasn't delicious, it was average at best.
The third dish was like a wildcard dish there wasn't anything technically wrong with it but it wasn't fully mindfully thought out in my mind. Mind you this is only my opinion and I can always be wrong. This chicken dish, it was perfectly cooked and I started to taste something I didn't expect that was taking over the dish, even though minor, I couldn't ignore it, this was a curry, and I love curry. It changed the dish drastically and it made me take a very drastic action at a restaurant, I had to deconstruct a dish at the table from a French chicken dish into a chicken curry using the sauce I had on hand. Now I'll even admit I went a little heavy in my deconstruction and should have left more chicken. I can only imagine the staff looking at this crazy guy with his knife tearing the dish to shreds lol (at Michelin star restaurant no less). The dish worked moderately well deconstructed but in general besides for the ravioli dish everything was all over the place and beyond chaotic. The dessert was alright but honestly by the end of the meal I was still hungry and just wanted to get out of there. I think this review might be a bit harsh but this was...
Read moreWe were in paris so we wanted to try out several michelin star restaurants. We generally do this in every city we visit so over the years we have been to many many such restaurants. And almost always we are impressed by the atmosphere, service and most imporantly the food.
The dinner we had this evening was disappointing on several levels. The tables are so close togehter that if felt more like a family restaurant with everyone hearing each other's conversation. The service was fine. The real issue was the food, which of course is why we were there. It just didnt come close to the standard we have seen in other restaurants that have a michelin star. Admittedly, at Euro 350 for the 2 of us, this was not as expensive as most, but we really didnt care about the cost, we just wanted food that was interesting and delicious. This food was interesting but seemed more preoccupied with being different than putting taste first.
Three of the menu items were unavailable which was unusual but we worked around that.
The duck foie gras appetizer was too mushy and lacked the duck taste I was hoping for. The medley of vegetable that followed should not have contained fruit in my opinion and should have been substantial enought that one is able to take a bite and actually chew a vegetable. The main course which was beef was quite good but it was followed by a bland and similar selection of French cheeses.
On the other hand, the German couples to our right seemed to think the food was "magnificient" and the English couple to our left thought the food was "very good"when asked by the waiter for their opinion.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and so is food, so I hestitated to write this but with so many options in Paris, I am not sure that many would want to spend Euro 350 at this restaurant. One this same trip we have been fortunate to visit other one star restuarants for half that amount and came...
