La Rotonde — Restaurant in Paris

After starting our evening at a Michelin star restaurant our night took a very sharp turn when we came to La Rotonde. Waiter nr. 1 took our order. After 15 minutes I had still not received my drink so I emphasized my order to waiter nr. 2. 10 minutes later waiter nr. 1 brought my drink - by then I had waited 25 minutes and my companion had finished his - I asked him if we still had to pay full price for the inconvenience, he responded by walking away. I caught his attention again and suddenly he pretended that he didn’t speak English so I asked him in French if they were really planning on charging us for a drink that had by that time become irrelevant since we wanted to head out. He then sassily berated me for even asking. We asked waiter nr. 2 for the check and he brought it to us and we also mentioned this subject to him. He was not as impolite but still tried to put the blame on us since we had emphasized that we wanted the drink. I’m very unhappy with the slow and rude service and for Christmas I wish for the owners of this place some...

Not a place I’d recommend. Waiter was extremely rude— pretended not to understand my pronunciation of a common French liquor, took several tries, then he said it was because of my accent. Hmm. Potato/Potahto…Should have left then. After 15 minutes when the drink arrived, we asked him to say it again, he acted as if he had no idea what word we meant or that we had asked… hmm. And when paying mentioned that they were out of the one scotch we ordered so he substituted another. Without bothering to ask us. Lots of great places in Paris, lots of professional waiters… just not here. Go elsewhere.

Forgot one other point—this is a place that has the mandatory tipping screen on their credit card machine. Starts at 15%. And he was watching while I was choosing. Gladly hit the “no tip” while he watched. ...

We were DRAMATICALLY overcharged last night. We (a male friend and myself) had stopped in at around 3am for a last quick drink before we headed home. I ordered a Sprite, and he ordered a cheap beer (something to the tune of Heineken).

27€. For a soft drink and a small bottle of beer. When I protested (unfortunately after my friend had reflexively paid), the bartender said it was 11€ for the Sprite and 15€ for the beer. Which is insanity…and doesn’t even add up to 27€!

In the menu we were provided, a soft drink is 6€ and a beer is 8€. Absolute con, and the rudeness to my friend while we were there was unparalleled. My only thought is that perhaps they (African men) don’t like seeing an African man with a white woman? Because how he was treated was very odd,...
