Traditional French cuisine. Our reservation malfunctioned but they still sat us right at opening which was nice of them, however it was the table right at the middle of everything and every time the server passed he bumped my chair. Every time.
After we placed our order another party came in and wanted to order only appetizers as they said they weren’t very hungry and the server got noticeably annoyed, said no, and walked away. When he went to take another tables order behind them he was pointing and making faces, eye rolling behind them. Watching this unfold from an outside perspective it was a bit disturbing, as I heard her order 4-5 appetizers for 2-3 people, clearly they were not taking up a table to be cheap. They even said they will take the food to go so they can have their table back for patrons that will order main dishes. The manager smoothed things over from what it looked like but the server was p1ssed 0ff the rest of the night. If you display 4 trip advisor stickers on your door I would imagine it’s for good food AND environment but that was sad to see.
The Escargot and bread was good. My duck dish flavor was good, but it was only warm and my vegetables were a bit cold. Potato wedges were hot and crispy. The beef stew was delicious with mash potatoes. Crème brûlée with orange was tasty as well as the green apple sorbet with calvados-strong liquor.
I appreciate places that can accommodate on short notice however it did not feel good to see that type of service. I hope they remember that some people save their money and time to eat at their establishment and try to...
Read moreFor our visit to Paris this time, we decided to stay a little close to Montmartre and one of the recommended restaurant in the area is the family-owned Le Cabanon de la Butte.
Le Cabanon is a quaint cafe that specializes in traditional French fare with seasonal dishes and large windows in the back of the dining room offering a beautiful view of the city of Paris.
We started the dinner with a nice bottle of French chardonnay together with 12 big stuffed snails in burgundy sauce and marrow bones with the salt of Guerande. Both dishes are delicious and we enjoyed sharing them. (for bone marrow lovers it's a must try-it blew me away)
I then had the steak with pepper sauce and French fries while my partner chose duck breast with morello cherries and parsley potatoes, the dishes are filling and flavorful.
Our waiter then offered some dessert which we graciously declined but on second thought we decided to have the freshly made hot apple tart with caramel ice cream and salted butter. Why the hell not? We were on holiday!
Before the waiter handed us the check he complimented us with a shot of limoncello. It was a great dinner to be had while in Paris. Great view, delicious food, and wine, and friendly customer service, It can't get any...
Read moreGreat service, mediocre food. After reading all the reviews here on Google, we were so excited to try out this restaurant near our hotel but were disappointed with the food.
I had the escargots and steak tartar, while my friend had the beef bourguignon. The escargots were clean but still a little floppy, and certainly not enough garlic for my taste. The tartar meat was delicious with tart capers and a healthy serving. Unfortunately, the accompanying fries had a hair in them so the adorable waiter switched them out for me with some new ones.
The bourguignon was the most disappointing. The cut was not a nice meat, with big pieces of fat and veins. The sauce was nice enough but not seasoned very well.
The profiteroles also had a tin-like aftertaste - quite strange. My creme brulee was very orangey and fresh, which I enjoyed.
Overall, the experience was okay but not great. The view over the city is nice, and the service was friendly...
