1 star because I can't give Zero - and it's the first time I'm actually outraged. Horrible customer service!!! We were with a baby stroller and I didn't want to carry it all the way down (after already carrying it all the way uphill)..
Had to wait more than 30 minutes in line to buy a ticket, as multiple customers were having issues with acquiring them at the vending machine - we also had to try a couple of times and it finally worked, but only after paying cash. Of course nobody is at the top to offer assistance. But of course they were waiting at the bottom to hand out fines.
We and 2 other people were fined 35 Euros each - "because the funicular was still moving and not standing still while we were validating our tickets at the turnpike"??? But then why does the automatic gate where you have to go through with the baby stroller actually open to let you through?
And why don't you station at least 1 employee at the top to help the customers out, but you have 3 employees at the bottom specifically for handing out fines to your customers?? Looks designed to rob tourists, if...
Read moreIf you have mobility issues, please don’t let the staff “help you” in purchasing your tickets. They will “help you” through the barriers and onto the lift if you’re in a wheelchair, and then pass you the tickets once you’re inside. Then when you’re at the top, you’ll be asked to pay an €85 fine for not validating your tickets. When you try and explain to them what’s happened, they will threaten you and say they have called the Police and the only way to stop this is by paying a larger fine. “You may as well just pay the fine because it’s not that much money” is what they will say, as they surround you and try and intimidate you. Don’t back down. They will eventually give up. The staff should be ashamed of themselves. Comfortably the worst service I’ve ever...

Montmartre's electric cable car opened in the summer of 1990 and carries over 2 million passengers annually. The journey takes 90 seconds and the ticket costs the same as a one-way t+ ticket. If you have the Passe Navigo or Paris Visite then this ride is definitely worth it as the cable car is included in these travel passes. If you have to buy the ticket, then it depends on how tired you are and whether you prefer to climb the 197 steps on foot. On the way down, the steps aren't as strenuous, so you might want to just buy a one-way ticket...
