When I see reviews from travelers stating that this is a good boulangerie, my French and Parisian heart says : C'mon, this is not a good one, this is an "ok" one.
My guess is that travelers staying in the area may have no comparison if they try this one first shortly after arriving in Paris, and might write reviews thinking that it's genuinely a top notch boulangerie.
As a French, I can testify that there are hundreds of good boulangeries in Paris.
I wanted to be fair and tried 10 to 12 times and tasted various things.
The tradition Baguette bought in the morning is dry in the early evening, croissants and pains au chocolat are ok but a bit too greasy. Quiches and pies are not tasty or not good, canelés are dry, kougloffs are dry, flans are so so, chaussons au pommes are maybe the best bet. And everything is from 0.4cts to 1⏠more expensive than the common prices in Paris. The place looks fancy and it seemed to be a good boulangerie when the original owner, Mr Gérard Mulot was there.
I want to say : If you sell a croissant 1,60⏠or 1,70⏠instead of 1,20âŹ, please, at least, make it good. People are often willing to pay the price if you offer them a tasty and good quality product.
I would be really happy to go back on a regular basis if they improve the taste and quality. But for now, there are things to upgrade. And relying on tourism is not a long...
Read moreGerard Mulot is one of the bakeries that was highly rated, so like any good City Expert, I checked it out. It's a bit more casual at Gerald Mulot than the other fancy bakeries in Paris.
Besides all the pastries, they also offer bread, quiche, sandwiches, and baked goods. The service is not as friendly as the other bakeries, but it's...eh OK. They do accept credit cards, but there's a minimum amount. They also have a small counter area with stools for you to enjoy your pastry goods.
Macrons was - 3 stars Lemon Tart - 4-stars Croissant - 3.5-stars
Overall, Gerard Mulot is a casual place to pick up some pastry goods or a good loaf of bread within a...
Read moreBig disappointment! I just don't understand where the popularity comes from! I tried the macarons and a pear caramel mousse. The macarons were insanely sweet without any other distinctive flavour. The mousse were totally plain. You cannot tell it is a caramel flavour besides its color! the pear part was just ok but certainly not impressive. And the mousse was very small relative to its price of 5.5 euro. Some big-brand, quality-guaranteed pastries are not as expensive as this! Also I am doubtful about the color of their pastries. They are too flamboyant to be natural. Not recommended at all! Try Pierre Herme just hundred meters away and you will know...
