Google reviews led us to Pub St Germain and the place exceeded expectations. Location is a plus within walking distance whether staying in the local neighborhood or traveling in from an outside area. We happen to be staying within walking distance so this was a huge plus. The interior was clean another plus. The ambiance was inviting and welcoming with good music playing in the background. Another plus. What changed the evening and caused me to write this review is what Ivan noticed when we walked in. Btw I am not one to write reviews. This one is well deserved This was my first time visiting the pub with my family. When I stood at the bar and asked for a table in English Ivan overheard my request to one of the servers and immediately stepped in to get us seated with a clear table and menus in hand. His attentiveness to a situation is admirable. So much so that I pointed this out to my teenage boys as a teaching moment. He ended up taking our order and then handing the order off to his team to serve the food. He took care of drink delivery. When he dropped off the drinks I asked if he was the manager and he said “yes”. I let him know his hospitality was appreciated and I shared how what he did is something my kids observed. We had more conversation through the night and he took care of us as guests but the manner in which he did was pure and from the heart. Places serving people need more people like Ivan and his team at Pub St Germain. A great location, amazing and flavorful food, and above all being nice and serving from the heart will win customers and have them coming back for more. This place knows how to select a winning team to provide a great experience. For those who read reviews before trying out a new restaurant I hope this helps as you select where to enjoy your next evening out with...
Read moreMy husband and I made a reservation to eat at Pub St. Germain earlier this week. When we arrived it was nearly empty and we asked to sit in their little outdoor area. We immediately noticed how slow the service was despite only about two other tables of customers. We were given a drink menu and we ordered a bottle of wine thinking we were going to eat dinner. The bottle we wanted was no longer in stock and the waiter recommended a different bottle. We had been looking at bottles in a different price range and chose the other we were considering. This clearly bothered the waiter. It's not like this is fine dining. We simply wanted an affordable bottle of wine. After we received the wine we asked if we were able to order food outside (because we weren't ever given a food menu). We were told yes and if we wanted the menu in English we would have to go inside and scan the QR code on the tables in there. Not a problem. The problem is that we then sat for an hour waiting for our server to return to take our food order. After a half hour the host or manager had come out with an English menu and we replied that we looked at the English menu through the QR code as instructed and were ready to order. The waiter never came back. I had glanced inside and he was walking around doing seemingly nothing. We considered leaving but regrettably had ordered a bottle of wine. We went in to pay for the bottle (the waiter was rude about that too) and left. I wish I had addressed it with the host/manager at the time but I honestly just wanted to leave and go to a restaurant that would have more respect of my time and perhaps serve me food! Bottom line, this restaurant couldn't attract customers in a very busy area and then ran out the two that were previously excited...
Read moreThe food, amazing and the portions are perfect. The prices, though, are out of control.
First off, we have to talk about the staff. The wait staff is friendly and helpful. They do their best to accommodate you and any questions you may have. They’ll help you with menu options as well. For instance, the menu is extremely limited and it has no sign of a kid’s menu. However, there is a kid’s menu and they will take you through it, just ask. Btw, the kids menu is a drink, chicken strips or burger with fries, and a small dessert, which is different flavors of ice cream.
The restaurant is gorgeous. With an atmosphere that not only relaxes you but makes you excited to be transported to a large pseudo speakeasy, the restaurant is perfectly decorated and staged. Plentiful seating throughout this enchanted, multilevel tavern exist, so I don’t think you’ll need to worry about a reservation. Also, just know that the bathrooms are on the top floor and they are very clean.
Unlike the food menu, the drink menu is huge. I had an old fashion and it was good just not the best I’ve had. There was no cherry and I couldn’t taste the bitters. My wife had a Les blues which just tasted like strong grapefruit juice. The drinks were my least favorite thing about this place.
The food was good but not €108 good. We had the kid’s menu burger, two fish and chips, and a pulled pork burger. All was delicious and filling. Fries come with all we had. The fish and chips are just fries and one large piece of fish (no bones, thank God!). The good news is that even though expensive, the food came out fast and hot.
Overall, this isn’t a bad place, but know you’re going to spend at least around €100 on lunch for four...
