Loved the desserts! So hard to choose a dessert out of all the choices in the menu.
I had a bao burger first (4.5€), which was okay. I expected it to be bigger at first, but it turned out to be quite small. The taste was just ordinary.
My friends shared a bowl or noodle soup (12.5€) which was quite good and big enough for two.
Then we had desserts (6.8€ each) : I had the « larme de prince » if i’m not mistaken. I loved it! The bold and smoothing matcha ice cream flavour mixed well with the sweet red beans and chewy tapioca balls. A bit of crunchiness coming from the cornflakes, I thought it would have been biscuits. Overall, good, fancy and worth it. Matcha tiramisu that my friend had was pretty good as well, although the she couldn’t really taste the matcha. The Matcha roll crepe was quite big and also good. The matcha taste mixed well with the smooth chantilly and sweet red beans.
Overall, I think that the desserts are fancy and quite worth it if you’re really a fan of matcha, and asian-fusion desserts. The salty menus, however, was quite ordinary, since it’s also not their specialty. If you’re looking for asian foods, you can find it better in a proper asian restaurants. The dessert...

As a Chinese who had been living in Tokyo for 6 years, I’m really happy to find such a great place selling authentic matcha desserts, as I found many so called matcha desserts in Paris are way too sweet, many nationally famous pastry chefs ( not to mention their name out of respect) put too much sugar and the excessive sugar covers the unique taste of matcha tea.
Shodai matcha desserts retain the taste of matcha, yet not bitter at all, so it can be well accepted by westerners. My Canadian born Italian husband LOVE this place and their range of desserts so much, he even saved and bookmarked this place on his google map.
I really love the way Shodai treats their desserts- not too sweet nor heavy nor too much. The sweetness and portion are just perfect, service is good too. It’s not a very big place but the owner did her/his best to decorate it, very charming setting.
My husband joked that he can imagine me visiting this place everyday if it’s located in our residence area lol!

Read moreWe visited Shodai Matcha mid-afternoon after a long walk, and it was hands down one of the best matcha experiences I’ve ever had. The flavors were out of this world. We had their matcha ice cream woth bobba pearls which were nice chewy with a layer of crispy rice underneath and it’s such a fun and satisfying surprise. We also shared the matcha opera cake, which was rich, delicate, the cake really absorbed the matcha flavour soaked well and perfectly balanced.
One of my favorites was the assorted matcha pastry box (I believe it’s called the Shodai Box) with four varieties—each one beautifully crafted and bursting with flavor. Everything tasted as good as it looked.
The café itself is small and serene, with minimalist Japanese decor. There’s only one table for four, and we were lucky enough to grab it—an ideal reward after walking from Galeries Lafayette nearby.
If you’re a matcha lover, this place is a must-visit in Paris. From the quality of the tea to the creativity of the desserts, Shodai Matcha truly delivers a memorable experience....
