Not a tourist-friendly place / rude staff

We found this cafe based on reviews on Google and visited the place on Sunday around 11 AM. As expected the place was moderately crowded. We ordered two lattes, I turned on my e-book reader and my wife turned on her tablet to read newspapers and started to wait. Well, for some reason, this is not allowed in this cafe. The staff came to us and warned us that it is not allowed to use "laptops" on weekends. There was no laptop but what we understood she meant was that we shouldn't get ourselves comfortable to stay long. The unbelievable part is that this warning took place in the very first 10 minutes of our visit before the lattes were served.

Frankly speaking, we are generally a very considerate couple. We always check if there are people waiting for a free table and if we are done with our meal or drinks, we decide to leave even if we have time to hang around like how normal people should do. Even only for ordering drinks, I think it is fair to keep the table for 30-45 minutes. I assure you that if this wasn't the behavior, we would definitely order desserts and another coffee to stay longer.

I am trying to empathize and the only plausible reason I can think of why they behaved like this could be overwhelming amount of tourists using laptops and staying for long hours without ordering. I highly doubt that but lets say this is the case, it still doesn't justify this behavior. How you warn people, when to do it and how you feel doing it all really matter.

What we thought as a result of this was: The staff is extremely rude. Customers are cash cows and they are not allowed to stay unless they don't order meeting the expected return on investment. If you are not ordering breakfast, you should leave. If you are a tourist, we can warn you as we like, this is our cafe.

Needless to say but, we will never visit this...

Horribly rude staff! Service très impoli! I was there for brunch with my mother and sister, the barkeeper ignored us, first was talking to client but then pretending to be busy for 5 mins. Asked if we could sit outside, she barely looked at me and said we could do whatever we wanted but we won’t eat for a awhile. Asking how long was this waiting as we were on holidays and didn’t mind it, she got really upset and yelled that she didn’t know and could be anything around 15 mins. Just warning to the owners of the place, YOU LOOSE CLIENTS WITH STAFF like this!!!! I’m happy to spend my money but not in a place we’re I don’t feel welcomed at all… Lastly I gladly see we were not the only ones in the comments, I was afraid it was because of our skin color, but they are rude to everyone… Anyways would gladly spend my moment and money but not for...

Our recent visit to your cafe left much to be desired. The coffee, unfortunately, had an overwhelmingly sour taste, and the continental breakfast failed to meet our expectations, with only the baguette proving to be truly enjoyable.

Adding to the disappointment, the tables were left uncleaned from the previous customers, and despite our polite requests, we had to ask twice for them to be properly cleaned. This oversight significantly impacted our overall dining experience.

Furthermore, the skinny waitress with short, light brown hair displayed a disappointing level of rudeness, tarnishing what could have been an enjoyable morning. On a positive note, other members of your staff were exceptionally friendly.

In light of these issues, we hope you can address the areas of concern to ensure a more pleasant experience for your customers...

I had the pleasure of visiting this lovely spot while I was in Strasbourg. I was looking for a good breakfast place, and I landed on a great coffee place. Greeted by the friendly staff, and the energetic vibes from the cosy place, I was just amazed. I ordered a flat white and a croissant. The flat white was strong, and satisfying my inner coffee nerd. The croissant was fluffy and tasty. This is an amazing coffee place, I highly recommend it to any visitor to Strasbourg. You will get a coffee that‘s far better than what you find in an average French cafeteria.

The best Granola with yoghurt and fruit I've had in Strasbourg. Accompanied by a heavenly Latte that really woke me up. I enjoyed my little breakfast and the quiet atmosphere while flicking through a magazine. The decor is stylish, so you immediately feel at home. The service is friendly and you are greeted with a smile. An absolute heartfelt recommendation if you’re in Krutenau - whether for a coffee date alone, a brunch with friends or a cosy break with your loved one. 🥰
