Antipodes — Restaurant in Toulouse

This St. Cyprien gem is located in a great area, close to the metro, Les Abbatoirs and Place de l’Estrapade. We had the encornet with aioli and mezze platter to start. The encornet was light, crispy and perfectly seasoned. The falafel were crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside and served on top of a dreamily creamy hummus. This platter was a dynamic combination of textures and flavors. Our mains were equally as delicious. My well-seasoned steak was accompanied by a simple but absolutely delightful lettuce wedge salad. My dinner companions raved about their chorizo-inspired Toulouse sausage. For dessert, we ended our meal with a molten lava chocolate cake that was another flavor / texture bomb. A gorgeous little hole-in-the-wall, serving refined food with a small, inexpensive menu. The idea is a battle of dishes from around the world that, in fact, compliment each other. This is: Antipodes. Speaking English and French in this intimate establishment, you'll be able to eat lunch here or dinner, a lovely local wine list to match and desserts to die for! Ambiance chargée en fumée et en odeurs de cuisine en rentrant dans le restaurant cuisine ouverte certes mais ... cela n’apporte rien. Le cuisinier n’est pas en interaction avec la salle. Rapidement on oublie de le regarder préparer. entrée : pain vapeur et effiloché de canard. Le pain a un goût de poisson qui ne se marie pas avec le canard. La couleur noire est assez rebutante. Le tout est difficile à manger avec les doigts. L’assaisonnement est pauvre et ne relève pas le goût de cette entrée qui laisse juste en bouche un goût de gras. plat : luinguini aux butternut. Est-ce une blague ? Le plat est servi dans un petit bol qui fait ridicule par rapport aux planches de viande énorme apportées à mes amis. Le plat est bon mais manque d’assaisonnement. Et le prix est totalement injustifié. le service est correct. la salle est petite et on se retrouve rapidement à l’etroit quand tout le restaurant est plein.
