Tom pouce — Restaurant in Toulouse

I have never written a review before, however my experience here left me no choice. The croque monsieur was not hot, chips forgotten, then if you like the cigarette smoke at all angles attractive this is the place to go… when I went to pay , I reminded the waitress I hadn’t had chips and the lady (appeared to be in charge) behind till, jumped at making sure that was the case. Then felt they were feeling we were going quickly , so I made comment about too much smoke… this obviously struck a nerve… I then incorrectly said I thought it was banned to smoke in restaurants and we had an exchange whereby she told me to stay at home!!! I told her how rude she was. It’s a shame when those who don’t smoke, are the ones whose dining experience is ruined…… talking through with my French family, I now understand the restaurants feel threatened by the prospect of a smoking ban en terrasse as large number of their diners would disappear… or would they? Works in other countries. To summarise , unpleasant experience, warm Food instead of piping hot croque, crammed seats and continuous waft...

Good location and the food was decent, staff who work there were friendly but unfortunately managements attitude was dreadful. The card machine was not working when we went to pay - we were told to go to a cash machine and draw money but insisted we leave ID behind to ensure we came back as if it was us trying to get out of paying the bill. Then a member of staff escourted us to the bank to ensure we drew money. The bank machine then charged a 6euro fee to withdraw the money - so because their payment system wasnt working, we had to pay an extra 6euros and they refused to take that off the bill. Its more the attitude of the older lady of being treated like petty thieves as if we were trying to get out of paying that was infuriating and that we then had to pay more for our meal for something that was not our fault. Really disappointing end to what would have been a mediocre meal.

We were intending to visit The Flower Cafe next door which had been recommended by a local, but there was a queue - obviously for good reason. We would have been better off...

Première fois et dernière fois que je mets les pieds dans cet établissement. Je pense que les autres avis négatifs parlent d'eux mêmes mais je souhaite quand même partager mon expérience. Nous sommes allé.e.s avec un.e ami.e à ce café (faute de place chez le concurrent principal, le Flowers Café, victime de son succès mérité). Tout d'abord l'attente a été assez longue. Il y avait du monde en terrasse, certes, mais il n'y a même pas eu un regard ou un geste de la part des serveurs pour signifier qu'ils nous avaient bien remarqué. Nous avons dû attendre une bonne quinzaine de minutes et notre commande a enfin été prise après deux appels aux serveurs. Nous avons chacune pris une tarte et un smoothie. Le gâteau, pas terrible à mon goût, ne valait certainement pas son prix. Lorsque le serveur nous apporte la commande en même temps que l'addition, nous apprenons que la carte bleue n'est pas acceptée dû à un problème avec le TPE. Bien entendu, ce sont des choses qui arrivent, mais cela aurait été la moindre des choses de prévenir AVANT de prendre les commandes. Nous indiquons que nous n'avons pas d'espèces. Le serveur (très mal à l'aise et qui semblait perdu) nous bafouille quelques trucs et termine en disant qu'il y a un distributeur pas très loin. Une fois notre commande consommée, nous nous rendons à l'intérieur pour tenter de payer et tombons sur une patronne fort désagréable (et c'est peu de le dire). De but en blanc elle nous indique que son TPE ne fonctionne pas et quand je lui indique gentiment et poliment qu'il aurait été bien de nous prévenir avant que nous passions commande pour que nous prenions nos dispositions, sa réponse parle pour elle même : "Eh bien, je ne peux pas prévoir quand mon TPE tombe en panne !". Une réponse très professionnelle en somme.

L'accueil et le service médiocre, les prix bien trop élevés pour une qualité qui laisse à désirer ainsi qu'une "embuscade" lors du paiement et, bien entendu, jamais un mot d'excuse. Voilà toutes les raisons pour lesquelles je vous déconseille ce café. Vous trouverez bien mieux...
