I’ve visited pulp a few times, so this is a well rounded review. The first visit was great – I noticed that the staff were cold, but noted it down to the cafe being busy and left it at that. The drinks, and pastries in particular, were wonderful.
Since then, every time I’ve visited almost all the pastries have been sold out, even if it’s 1PM. They close at 9PM, so this just doesn’t make any sense to me.
Anyway, we take our order for takeaway, a cortado and pastry, the latter being a consolation selection because nothing we actually wanted from the pastries was available.
The cortado was horribly bitter, so bitter that I went to BNKR up the road to ask for milk in it to dilute the taste and make it drinkable.
The final straw for why I won’t be returning was the orange-haired server giving us a pastry that was soaked through in rum. Both my partner and I are Muslim, for me visibly so, and while she supposedly mentioned it in the name when we asked what it was, the cafe was loud and we couldn’t really make out what she said from the accent – we only heard ‘rhubarb’ and ‘cream cheese and lemon’.
My husband ate one bite before realising and threw it out. When I came back to the cafe to confirm the ingredients, the server said ‘I mentioned it in the name’ and refused to take accountability until she could see I was visibly frustrated, and only then apologised.
While I’m aware that pulp experiments with unique flavours, pastries with alcohol content should ABSOLUTELY be labelled as such. Whether it’s for a Muslim person, someone who is sober, or someone who simply avoids alcohol out of personal choice, this was a ridiculous oversight that could’ve easily been avoided.
It’s truly a shame, I really did support pulp for its way of doing things but on recent visits I’ve only been disappointed.
We were much more comfortable up the road at BNKR which is quieter, has better coffee, and staff that actually seem happy to interact...
Read moreI recently visited this coffee shop, and while the place itself seemed popular and had a steady flow of customers, my experience wasn’t the most pleasant. There were three staff members working at the time. The lady taking my order didn’t seem very welcoming — she didn’t smile or make me feel like a valued guest, which is something I truly appreciate when visiting any café.
Another barista, who made my coffee, responded quite rudely when I asked a simple question about whether I should wait inside or outside. I didn’t feel comfortable interacting with her at all — again, no smile or friendliness.
That said, the coffee itself wasn’t bad — I actually liked it. But unfortunately, the customer service left a lot to be desired. I wouldn’t recommend this place based on the attitude of the staff during my visit. I sincerely wish them the best and hope they consider bringing more warmth and positive energy to their guests...
Read moreNO SALT?! I love this place for their vibrant breakfast plates usually served with a perfectly poached/ soft boiled/ fried egg. This place also has amazing pastries- their matcha donuts are puff pastries are few of my favs. Nice place to sit and study with your laptop or have a snack with a drink or so! Per-friendly too.
Today was my 5-6 th visit to this place and I asked for a little bit of SALT to season my egg-dish I bought to dine -in. But the girl at the counter told they don’t have salt. I asked again thinking she didn’t understand my question. But she strongly refused to give me a bit of salt !! Any fool would know that it’s totally a lie when a cafe or restaurant refuses to give a bit of salt/pepper, it’s because they’re out of salt ! A bit of salt was seen sprinkle on my egg itself when it was served to me! Why lie /deny a...
