Boring. Pretentious. Overpriced. A ruined evening. A mistake.
The bar is beautiful: it's quiet and well decorated. Sofas and chairs are comfortable and clean. The music is chill and it makes this space a great place to have a nice conversation.
Then: the cocktails. They have a very snob way to describe drinks without detailing the ingredients, making you pray for a good result. That's just poetry that tries to cover the boredom and tasteless result of their mixes. We tried a few of them and I have to say: all the attendees were disappointed.
Finally: the service. We tried to decipher what we wanted to have, and when the waitress asked for what we wanted, she explained that what we thought the cocktail was is completely different, and our expectations were all wrong. Then, she offered another drink that "fits your taste better". Basically we're all wrong, we have to take whatever she said and then we ended with unpleasant beverages in our glasses. What's the point of making choices here. What's the point of having a misleading menu. What's the point of making feel your customers that they don't know anything. I don't know.
I definitely don't recommend this place due to the fact you will get diluted and sutil watery flavours that makes you think "If I knew that this is the product offered, I'd rather eat a cucumber. It's more...
Read moreThe lady servicing the bar was not accomodating at all and refused two friends who had come to see me (I was inside with more people with a reservation) to even say hi. If your policy is to be a New York Style bar with exclusivity and you don't want people standing around, that's fine. But then go all New York style and run a waiting list or have a system to tell people how long the wait will be. Respond to your customers' requests. You're running a bar, not a kingdom. We knew that some of our party were leaving and that seats would open up within not even ten minutes, which would have allowed my friends in. But instead of politely saying that there would be a wait or even discussing that issue with me (I had told her more people might be coming), she rudely refused my friends at the door without even telling me they were there. Of course my friends left immediately, which left me embarassed. First and last time I was here, pity since the drinks were excellent (which warrants the one star that google forces you to give anyway).
Read moreSo this place deserves a fairly complete review. It's definitely got a vibe that is genuinely something special. Check it out if you're into intimate places that don't get flagged up too much. Trouble is that the drinks are almost universally terrible. I'll explain shortly, but that's why it gets two stars not one. So, if you ever raided your parents' booze cabinet and mixed together different alcohol you'll know the quality of the drinks. It ain't good. Everything you drink there is massively over boozy. To me it smacks of not making the effort to train good bar staff. They've clearly been trained to make good noise, but not good cocktails. The bartender I had told me that the whiskey sour was Japanese, so they use traditional Japanese ingredients. Obviously he was trying to bluff his way out of looking uneducated, but I wouldn't care if the drinks were good. To be honest, I'm leaving this review so they maybe start learning about what cocktails should taste like, not just forcing overpriced booze on people. I love the vibe, and it's genuinely unique, but you won't like the drinks....
