Was really looking forward to the food. Unfortunately we didn’t even get to try it.
I made a reservation 3 days in advance which required confirmation from the restaurant. I received no reply so asked my partner to try. They also didn’t receive confirmation so we called, gave name and were told “oh, yeah okay” in the most unenthusiastic manner possible. “So is that our confirmation?” “Yes.” So we show up. Say we have a reservation with name and the server just says “no” 🙄
Anyway, we sit because there is literally only one other table eating. When our server returns we order a .5l wine to start and he tells me I can’t have my half empty bottle of water (which I take with me everywhere because of asthma). I say “no water?” a little surprised as most restaurants in Berlin don’t care, and he says “no water”. So I put it away. Our server then proceeds to turn to a colleague eating at a table nearby and make comments about wasser und wein to which she smirkes and rolls her eyes, and they laugh together. Clearly thinking we couldn’t understand anything they were saying.
So incredibly rude and uncalled for. Terrible service especially demeaning your customers right in front of them. You should be ashamed. They projected an heir of not caring starting with the reservation process and it just got worse when we got there. We left and went to a restaurant nearby with great food and lovely, friendly service. The front of house staff here should not be so judgmental of every little thing about their customers and take a moment to think about how the way you act and say things comes across to them. And don’t assume we can’t understand when you are being critical or having a laugh at our expense, right in front of us.
I was a server for 10 years. It’s not that hard to be kind and respectful to...
Read moreChay Long is a pleasant setting for a meal with friends. A quiet, Vietnamese-decorated restaurant with an extensive menu. All is vegan except the condensed milk for the coffee. The presentation is lovely and the portions are huge. It is a great value for your money. However, unlike the other options we visited in Berlin, this restaurant did not focus as much on healthy options. It is delicious but with a lot of oil and added sugar. Also, almost each meal on the menu comes with some sort of tofu or seitan. We started with crispy fried rice paper rolls filled with organic tofu, morels, shiitake mushrooms, glass noodles and vegetables, served with a homemade soy sauce (3.40 euros). For an entree we had various vegetables in a very delicious homemade peanut sauce with organic tofu (Cơm Sốt Lạc, 7.50 euros) and steamed rice with marinated organic tofu, seitan, mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, fresh vegetables and gravy (Cơm Thập Cẩm, 7.50 euros). The latter did not have a lot flavour and had more seitan...
Read moreBest Vegan Vietnamese restaurant in Berlin! Staff: Super friendly, suggest which dishes are the best. Atmosphere: Cozy, comfortable which made us feel like we're having dinner at a friend's house or a relative's house. Foods: I am quite a picky & tough on foods, but this place really had me to set a new standard bar. We had Bún Bò Huế (big noodle soup), Bún Trộn Xả Ớt (the stir-fried/mixed dish) with some starters including summer rolls & Chả Lá Lốt. We're curious about their plant-based duck, so we ordered some more. We were super impressed by the restaurant. Drinks: We ordered two smoothies: a Banana smoothie and a Mango smoothie. Both were sooo good, not too sweet, not artificial at all and the restaurant was using rice drinking straw! Not paper straw!
But to keep it short, if you are looking for fully-vegan restaurants, with Vietnamese or Asian cuisines, this is the...
