A bit of a Kastanienallee local secret. Cafe after 10am and Bar by night. The Jukebox, or staff music picks are truly excellent. The interior is artfully rundown and there is an upstairs section where you may smoke inside. The star off is really for the toilet. It is simply horrible. If you find charm in a cramped unhygienic space where the basin tap is foot operated (if you can find the pedal under the mass of wet used paper towels at you feet...) then you are welcome to it. But that aside it's a lovely place to while away the afternoon on the outside tables playing a game of chess or backgammon. People come here to read and be quiet during the day and the location tucked around the corner on Schweter Strasse is very conducive to the more pastoral pursuits. Read morethis is a little gem. it has a true charm, very laid back, airy, high ceilings and comfortable seats, not fussy at all, lovely. the window front opens totally so in summer the inside is very fresh. it is also quite cheap - and very nice people around, 'locals' who come there often. the staff is totally cool. i come here to work on my laptop sometimes, but also for an aperol spritz in the evening, it gets very lively. they also have a few options if you are hungry at lunchtime. it has an awesome atmosphere and always good music....
