I've gone back here a few times since I first went. Being the only Belgian craft beer bar in Berlin makes it in high demand despite my previous complaints. To address those complaints, the bar is still always packed and hard to get a drink. There is more staff now however. They also now have beer menus and do stock a huge assortment of great beer choices. It's still not comfortable to enjoy a drink inside, and your best bet is to sit out front and enjoy your beer and Berlin street life. My previous review is below. I went to HERMAN on a Friday night and I must have gone immediately after they opened. There was only ONE person working and the bar had possibly over 100 people waiting to get a drink. We tried to get a drink and waited over 30 minutes before the only employee even came to our side of the bar. Which is another problem, the bar is designed very poorly. It's a long and thin establishment and the bar top itself takes up the majority of the entrance area, leaving no space to stand and enjoy a drink while also waiting to order a drink. There was no decor and no atmosphere provided by the bar, nothing on the walls and barely any seats. It was simply a room with a bar top and some taps. Behind the bar there was a huge display of many Belgian beer bottles. These seemed to be just for decoration, and served as a menu apparently, as there was no physical menu provided that listed what drinks they served. I'm going to go back again soon on another weekend to see if this was a fluke or if this is the normal situation in this bar. Be warned if you go there, it's not a...
Read moreI didn't like it. It lacked atmosphere. It's only good, when you can sit down. I think there are many bars, which have a better vibe. Maybe it's something you try for a space to have a date, but then it's not impressive or cool enough. Really don't know why I would go there. It's not that they do anything really wrong, but they really don't have anything that would draw me there. Maybe if you like Belgian beer.
Minimalistic interior, Belgian beer, not comfortable to stand, some tables to sit. Music, can't remember.
To me, 1 star is a total disaster 2 stars, is a restaurant, I regret going, but which had something going for itself. 3 stars is, I don't regret to have been there, but wouldn't come back 4 stars, is a restaurant which do almost everything right, and I would come back when in the area 5 stars, is when I would absolutely come back to try more dishes, setting up dinner dates for...
Read moreIt’s a no go for sure. I don’t know where all these good reviews are coming from, but apparently many people are not used to good service in Berlin, which is a common problem.
The barman here was really demeaning, showing me and my friend that he is much smarter than us, although he didn’t even hear about the Belgian beer I mentioned to him. He gave me a bad recommendation on what to try, which was not at all a beer style I described as a wish, and he also told me the wrong price, which at the counter turned out to be 20% higher than he said.
I mean, really, 27 eur per 2 not so good beers in Berlin? This is ridiculous. That was one of the worst bar experiences we’ve ever had. Do not...
