HIMMEL 8 — Restaurant in Berlin

Vegans beware! I really wanted to love this place, and had passed a couple of times. I decided to try it today. There is a sign outside that says "Vegan", but of course you always need to ask questions and be sure. I see an item on the menu I may like, but it says it includes yogurt. So I ask. Man at the counter says, "no, of course it's not vegan. It has yogurt! You can substitute for hummus." Ok, I keep looking. I see a different item and ask if it's vegan. Mind you, every item on the menu has the green leaf symbol for vegetarian, but none for Vegan, not even the "vegan" items. Dude says, "Everything can be vegan!" So, from what I gather, the service is fairly awful, and they are not aware that yogurt can be vegan. As I am on a strictly vegan diet now, I was not given the impression that I can trust that what I get from here will be vegan, so I chose not to eat here. It's a shame really, because I was genuinely excited and interested...

My first time here was 2 years back when i tried one of their Mezze plates. I remember it being quite tasty and fresh. I returned today and got the 7States vegetable preparation with rice. Not a good experience. The vegetable mix was quite acidic due to excessive tomato based sauce and addition of pickled cucumber. And the flavor profile was quite boring, one dimensional. Plus the packaging was not appropriate with oil and liquid seeping out. Won’t recommend 7States for anyone looking to enjoy a hot meal with flavor. But I will return to try something different on their menu. Or perhaps just stick with Mezze. Or perhaps eat-in from proper plates...

Unfortunately, not that good as presented here and not customer centric place. Since our offices are near, I had lunch several times and every time there was some negative experience. The food is average, in comparison to what neighborhood can offer (wraps as well) The place is very small and usually crowded The biggest remark is on service, usually arogant, impatient and not customer centric.

To the owner: Congrats on a good score so far, thanks to the vegan community, but please keep improving, cause this is far away from excellent. Competition never...
