Myself and a small group went for brunch at the recommendation of another friend. It was a cute cafe and the food was pretty good. However, the service was horrible! There were no signs at all about possible allergens in any of the food on the menu. We ordered the Mixed Breakfast Platter and were shocked to see a mixture of nuts spread across the meats. There was nothing to indicate there would be nuts in the dish. My fiancĂ©e has an anaphylactic allergy to nuts so of course we would have ordered something else or asked for the nuts to be left out had we seen it on the menu. We asked if we could simply have a couple new slices of meat so she could have some without nuts. We didnât ask for a totally new dish or a refund or anything. Yet the waitress was incredibly rude, rolling her eyes and getting angry at us for not saying anything when we ordered. We needlessly apologized, but also pointed out that there was nothing on the menu mentioning nuts in the dish. She responded by being even more rude and throwing her hands up and asking us âwell what do you want then?â We again just asked for a couple slices of meat on a new plate so my fiancĂ©e could actually eat it. Although the food was good, we will not be returning and warn other individuals with allergies...
Read moreUPDATED || I've been a customer of Kala for over 2 years now, so that I like it, is a given. The café is lovely, to food is fresh, the music is never too loud. But sometimes I noticed some discrepancies between the same dish that ordered in different days, for instance, the vegan pancake: once it was piled up in a tower and only had bananas and some berries with it. Next week, the same order had the pancakes distributed better on the plate (wich is easier to eat) and a way bigger variety of fruits, it was much richer! So this is a bit sad.
And, of course, the cash only policy is something I highly dislike. I really wish this will be changed soon. Dealing with cash is not something many of us like, and this makes me opt for other places instead of Kala sometimes.
---------- Update
I have been there a few more times recently and sadly things have changed a bit. Music is way louder now and not cozy (too agitaded, energetic) and customer service is not the best anymore. I do understand that managing such a place and working with people can be stressful at times - I fif it myself for over 7 years - but it is quite unpleasant to go place your order and feel like you are being hurried to finish or being spoken over. Not very friendly. It makes you...
Read moreThe food and the coffee are excelent. We really liked the vibe and the cakes. However, even though service the first time we went was nice, last time it wasn't as much. We arrived an hour and a half before closing time, we hadn't eaten anything all day and we were just going to have a coffee and leave. However, they insisted on telling us that they were about to close and their attitude was a bit like they wanted us out of the café immediately. They rushed us to order with their tone and attitude, remembering us that they will close in an hour (which wasn't the case, we arrived earlier than that). We totally understand that working in customer service is complex, especially when people arrive near closing time, but there were still other customers in the café and we didn't order anything...
