I recently visited Koko Berlin Restaurant based on a recommendation from some friends. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with my experience. The chicken dish I ordered was very dry. The portion size was also quite large, which made me feel like they were trying to sell more food at an expensive price. I found myself struggling to finish it, and the disappointment was further compounded by the fact that I was paying a premium for the meal.
Furthermore, the wait time was far too long. I arrived at the restaurant and had to wait outside for 35 minutes in the cold before being seated. This was an unpleasant experience, and I couldn't help but feel frustrated and uncomfortable. Once I was finally inside, I found the restaurant to be quite small and overcrowded, with around 30 people crammed into the space. This made it difficult to have a relaxing meal, and the overall ambiance of the restaurant suffered as a result.
In conclusion, I was disappointed with my experience at Koko Berlin Restaurant and would not recommend it to others. The dry chicken, the large portion size, the long wait time, and the overcrowded space all contributed to my dissatisfaction. While the restaurant may have received positive reviews from others, my own experience was far...
Read moreUpdate December 2024: all that I wrote below is still true with the exception that it was not quite as busy. I was there on a Monday, around 18:30. The food is still delicious; succulent chicken, wonderful flavour, and lightening fast service. Payment is by card only.
Original Review (January 2020): To be reasonably sure you will even get a seat in this very popular restaurant, you will need to show up early. The chicken is excellent: juicy, tasty, and succulent. The food is delicious and the service is excellent.
I had a single serving of chicken (and the portion was very generous), fries, pickled daikon, and two sides - kimchi and gyoza (deep fried dumplings that were delicious). Everything was good. The daikon had a wonderful light taste and was very fresh. The kimchi was also light, crunchy with lots of flavour but with none of that sour taste you sometimes get. The chicken...crunchy, moist, succulent and coated with a soy-wasabi sauce. The sauce gave the chicken a bold and spicy taste, but not too much, that left slight hit of wasabi as an aftertaste. I love complex flavours that linger the way that this chicken did. Basically everything in the meal worked together to produce a real feast...
Read moreWhile waiting in line for a concert, my friends went to KOKIO and brought back a dish made in heaven.
We ordered a full, boneless chicken (they offer full or half, with or without bones) for 3 people, which was 29,50 Euro. For the sauce, we chose Sweet Chili for one half and kept it original for the other.
The portion was very generous, as it was nearly too much for us 4. The chicken was very tender and the sweet chili sauce, while not really spicy, fit perfectly with the chicken. The original came with a little container with salt and pepper in it. Dipping the chicken in it gave it a nice and moderate kick.
The combination of the pickled radish side-dish (3,50 Euro) and the chicken was bomb! KOKIO also has a big variety of alcohol, following the Korean tradition of good Chi-Maek (Chicken and maekju / beer).
Since we took it to-go, they nicely packed both chicken halves up separately, so the sauce wouldn't mix. It was very handy to transport and easy to eat outside.
I recommend coming in groups though, as the smallest portion you can get is half a chicken, which is for 2 people and costs 19,50 Euro.
All in all, KOKIO offers tender chicken and good side-dishes and drinks. Will...
