Meena Kumari — Restaurant in Berlin

Among the worst service and experience I have encountered in my life. Would highly advice finding a different restaurant.

We went here as it was one of the places listed as a partner restaurant on the Berlin Welcome Card website. When we entered, I said we would like to use the Berlin Welcome Card discount. We were informed that the restaurant operates on cash only, which was quite weird and surprising given how everyone is going cashless there days.

We agreed to pay in cash and proceeded to order. When we ordered the food, the server was extremely rude and said that don't expect good portion sizes here as this is Germany not Asia. He seemed quite full of himself and kept passing unnecessary comments as we dined.

When the food arrived, the portion sizes were astounding. About 3 spoon-fulls worth of curry for €15. The food itself was ok, but there was a very hard object, probably a stone or uncooked piece of food which hurt my teeth badly. During our dinner, we used our water bottles to have a sip of water, and were told off by the waiter for having our water bottles on the table as it shouldn't be visible to other customers and its not allowed. How ridiculous!

Finally, we finished and settled the bill. Once again the server passed comments and claimed that to avail the Berlin Welcome Card discount, we need to order drinks, but he'll let it pass this time as we seemed to be from India. This is completely wrong as the Berlin Card website clearly states a 25% discount off all mains and deserts and there are no extra conditions such as the requirement to buy drinks (see attached screenshot). We weren't even informed about the discount on the deserts.

The staff here, especially the male server is full of himself and extremely rude and nosy. He will keep passing comments to demean you and won't let you dine in peace. He is entitled and discriminates against specific customers. I would highly recommend giving this place a pass for better alternatives where you can actually use a...

We ate here as a family and were sadly a bit disappointed by the subpar service and food after reading the great reviews. After we ordered our drinks, they came out slightly wrong (not a big deal when ordering for a group of 6), but after that it took forever for the server to come to our table again to take our order even though we were visibly waiting and the restaurant wasn't full. It took a rather long time for the food to arrive as well.

The food was not bad except for any dishes labelled as "mild". I'm bad with spicy food so I chose one of those, but that doesn't mean I can't handle any spices or taste at all! The curry didn't taste mild but completely bland. Other food was fine though.

Sadly, when it came to paying we were informed it was cash only. I'm sure most customers would appreciate being told this before or even right after ordering, and because we waited so long for our food one of us could have easily gone to the atm to fetch some cash while waiting. Instead, this further prolonged our visit...

Das Restaurant Meena kumari liegt ca. 150m von der U-Bahn Station Eberswalder str entfernt, Aufgrund der Lage ist die Üstra auch die erste Wahl der Anreise, denn Parkplätze sind in diesem Viertel sehr, sehr rar gesät. Oder man hat so viel Glück wie wir und bekommt ohne zu suchen einen Parkplatz fast direkt vor den Restaurant.

Wir hatten im Vorfeld vorsichtshalber reserviert, was an diesem Freitag Abend aber auch notwendig war. Bei unserer Ankunft konnten wir uns gerade noch einen Tisch aussuchen, der nicht direkt am Eingang gelegen war. Es existiert hier zwar eine Schleuse, um die kalte Luft draußen zu halten, allerdings wurde die innere Tür offen gelassen. Das war bei den herrschenden Außentemperaturen inakzeptabel und wir wunderten uns auch schon, dass keiner der anwesenden Gäste hier interveniert hatte. Da wir keine Lust auf eiskalte Füße und mehr hatten, schlossen wir die Tür einfach nach kurzer Nachfrage beim Servicepersonal.

Die Getränke- und Speisenbestellung gestaltete sich sehr einfach, da der Service unsere zahlreichen Fragen sofort beantworten konnte. Auch wurde uns sofort etwas Papadam mit einer Minzsosse an den Tisch gebracht. Da nicht jeder diese Soße mochte, wurde noch etwas grüne Chillisoße geordert, welche auch sofort gebracht wurde.

Als Vorspeise gab es bei mir Chicken Pakoora - Hänchenbrustfilet in Linsenmehlteig frittiert mit einer Salatbeilage. Die war sehr lecker und machte Appetit auf mehr.

Das Hauptgericht war bei mir das Tandoori Lamm Tikka - Lammfilet gegrillt, mit Zwiebeln, Tomaten und Paprika in Joghurt-Safran mariniert, mit Salat, in pikanter Curry-Soße. Aufgrund der Größe und Festigkeit der Fleischstücke bezweifele ich sehr stark, dass es hierbei um Lammfilet handelte. Hier folge ich eher der "englischen" Beschreibung in der Speisekarte - dort ist einfach nur von Lamm die Rede. Das Tandoori Lamm Tikka war allerdings sehr lecker und kann guten Gewissens weiterempfohlen werden.

Das Angebot von Süßspeisen in der Speisekarte hatte uns nicht überzeugt, und so wollten wir noch einen Espresso zum Abschluss. Vom Service wurden wir aber auf einen gewürzten Tee, ich glaube es war ein Masala Chai, umberaten. Das war keine schlechte Erfahrung, denn der Tee war echt lecker!

Trotz des etwas frostigen Beginn, gestaltete sich der weitere Abend aber dann doch sehr angenehm, was nicht zuletzt auch am sehr aufmerksamen Service lag. Immer freundlich und bemüht uns unsere Wünsche zu erfüllen. Im Laufe des Abends ging auch der Eigentümer von Tisch zu Tisch und erkundigte sich bei seinen Gästen, ob alles in Ordnung wäre.
