My review is solely on the service and atmosphere of this place. Having lived in Berlin for over a decade, it was surprising to find myself leaving a restaurant due to poor service. Alongside my friends and their babies and kids, we encountered blatant rudeness and racism from the female waitress.
Upon requesting a table for 9, plus two babies, the waitress appeared displeased. As we entered with two Kinderwagens, carefully placed on the side to avoid "traffic," her annoyance was already very noticeable. She put a frown in front if us, and posed a friendly- warm smile to the other customers who also have Kinderwagen with them. These customers are WHITE. We are almost all Asians in our group. You can already sense her animosity towards our table.
This was all during after lunch time. It was not that busy at all!!
While awaiting our order, we entertained the babies, positioning them on the sides of the table due to limited space. When my friend's baby had a small, normal wet burp- very common for babies (5-6months of age) the waitress, upon seeing it, turned her head and gave us a bad stare and turned her head showing how displeased she was.
I asked what was wrong, I told her “I’m going to clean it up”, to which she replied, 'It's a restaurant.' This understandably angered the father of the child.
This is a pizzeria, not a fancy or fine dining restaurant. And even if- we are talking about a normal physical reaction of a baby.
In the context of our world's current events, such actions will not go unnoticed. This is racism in its purest form—providing better service to white customers while offering less respect to People of Color.
We will not tolerate...
Read moreI previously had better experience here (in terms of food - service was not out of the ordinary) but today was exceptionally surprising as one of the waitstaff was really rude from the moment we went inside and asked for a table for our big group.
After trying to put up with her rudeness - she had the audacity to give worse facial expressions when more friends came in and wanted to join us that I had to tell her to "Relax - our friends have just joined and they will get their own table." I mean - girl if you're having a bad day -- leave your attitude at home or better yet, call in sick and rest. I even asked her if the tables were reserved and she said no.
Worse part was when she told the owner that a baby was on the table (there were other babies on other tables) and that the baby "threw up". Threw up = NORMAL baby spit up wherein my friends wiped the table clean straight away.
I had the chance to speak with the owner (he was there preparing the pizza) and I explained our side to him - and he said he was a parent too (I told him what's wrong with having a baby sitting on the table as we were playing with the baby - 6 months old for reference) and I told him our side of the story and he went "but I've had that staff for 3 years". No matter how long you have your staff - as long as you don't believe how your customers got treated at any given day - then you don't leave any space for improvement for you and your business.
Check out other family-friendly restaurants in Helmholtzkiez. No one deserves to experience this kind of rudeness from this...
Read moreI never write reviews, but someone needs to scream about this place from the rooftops. Mamida is definitely not your typical Neapolitan pizza place. They have a variety of unique pizzas and a great selection of craft beer and wine.
Last night I had the special pizza (with beef kebab ragu, stracciatella, and the lemon parsley gremolata) and it absolutely blew my socks off! I'm already thinking about going back today to have it again.
I've tried some other pizzas at Mamida and...Wow. My favorite is the "To Fig or Not" which is definitely for you if you're in the mood for something rich, spicy, and are searching for that first bite that's going to take you out of this world. If you're in the mood for something a little lighter- you can't go wrong with the Alpen Wind (I never would have thought I would be a fan of nuts on pizza, but here we are)!
I don't know what kind of thoughts go through the heads of these Italian masterminds when they are coming up with these recipes, but I never want them to stop.
Thank...
