We visited Tossakan hoping to have a nice dining experience.
Unfortunately the service was exceptionally terrible. So terrible that forced me to come leave this review which pains me as I could see there is love in the dishes and the restaurant.
We ordered some starters and some mains. Mains and starters all came together 1 hour after ordering, without even a single apology. One very strong point of feedback: Bring starters as soon as you can. Wait until the customers are done with them, or at least spent some time eating them. Then follow with the mains.
Arrogant waiting staff telling us that it's "authentic" dishes and that's why even 1 "spicy" level is really spicy without offering a way to help us improve our dining experience. Another point of feedback here. Not everyone likes super spicy food. Yet they want to enjoy the nice flavors Thailand can offer. Why not help the customers enjoy it and work with them? Without being condescending about "authenticity"?
I leave 3 stars for food, since some of the dishes were indeed good. I have been to Thailand, and I personally really enjoy Thai spicy food.
I loved the Tom yam soup. Also the soup inside the one the ribs were. The ribs did not have much meat on them unfortunately, but the soup was excellent. The grilled seabass was excellent. Also the cocktails were all really amazing. The som tam (papaya) salad was nice but only I could eat it (even though it had 1 spicy symbol). The crispy chicken strips were also really nice.
That said the spiciness level was insane for the rest of the group I came with. Some of what we ordered had no spicy signs, and most had only 1/3 spicy sign. Yet it was essentially inedible for them leaving me trying to explain to them and manage a super uncomfortable situation.
Again no apology, explanation or will to help from the staff. Overall a very bad experience. I would really expect some kind of explanation from the staff or some attempt to work with the customers and make their dining experience pleasant.
Finally prices to portions ratio are insane. Extremely expensive for the amount of food you get compared to other Thai...
Read moreDisappointing Visit to Tossakan – Despite a Kind Service Attempt. We visited the Thai restaurant Tossakan yesterday, looking forward to an enjoyable evening. We ordered three starters and two main courses. Since we generally enjoy spicy food – just not Thai-level spicy – we specifically asked the waitress to have the dishes prepared mildly to medium spicy. She was very friendly and assured us that the spicy sauces would be served on the side, which we really appreciated. However, when the main courses arrived (including a fish dish with two sauces), both sauces were extremely spicy – so much so that we could barely eat the food. When we asked for a milder sauce, we were told that the sauces had already been prepared and could not be changed. We were also advised against choosing an alternative sauce, as it supposedly wouldn’t go with the dish.As a result, we were left with two dishes that were essentially inedible. We asked to have them packed to take home, hoping to prepare our own sauce later. It was also disappointing that the waiter didn’t even ask why we had barely touched our food – no “I’m sorry,” no curiosity, nothing. On top of that, the wine selection was very limited, and the wine we ordered neither tasted good nor paired well with the food – unfortunately, something we’ve often experienced in Asian restaurants. Conclusion: Tossakan made a good impression at first, but in the end, we left feeling disappointed – due to both the kitchen’s lack of flexibility and the lack of attention from the service staff. A shame, as we had really...
Read moreTossakan did my wedding catering. Mic, Don, and the team worked together to pull off what all my guests universally call "the best food they've ever had at a wedding." Multiple of my friends then came back with me to Berlin and insisted on trying Tossakan's sister restaurant, Hanuman.
There's so much to love.
Food I think anyone who's been here knows that the flavors are amazing; I'm incredibly appreciative that the team stays true to what they think the dishes should be, even if those dishes may not be immediately familiar to everyone.
Attention to Detail Mic was so on it every step of the way. Food was genuinely the only part of my wedding I wasn't worried about, because of how thoughtful and organized Mic was. At some point, they actually offered to cover gaps left by other vendors.
Care I had a few guests with food sensitivities. One had such extensive allergies that Don had to make an extra dinner set with a new menu, especially for them. He then made a point to ask how the guest was doing both during and after the meal.
Everything was astronomically above expectation.

An extra note, not specifically about the catering
Tossakan's team - and especially Mic & Don - are wonderful humans. I've noticed them going out of their way to create community via food, and to give back when they can. If you care about putting your money where it counts / where impact can be amplified, I'd really consider spending it here,...
