The overall atmosphere was good. However, there was one episode that left a deep impression on me during this experience.
Halfway through the meal, a waitress who looked rather cold and even a little distant came over and asked us, "Is everything okay?"
This sentence is actually quite common in restaurants, but based on my many years of experience dining out in various parts of Europe, especially in this type of restaurant, proactively asking questions like this often means that the restaurant owner cares about the guests' feelings.
So I gave the truthful feedback and said that I felt the Limoncello Spritz I ordered was a bit monotonous and not like what I had had in Italy before. After listening to us, she said, "Would you like some lemonade?" Her tone sounded like she wanted to help us "reinforce it."
At the time, I thought that this was the restaurant’s way of showing sincerity. After all, this was not the first time I had encountered such a thing in other places.
When it came time to pay the bill, the small glass shot of lemonade was actually included in the bill, which cost 8 Euros.
I was a little dumbfounded at the moment because she never told me from the beginning that there would be an extra charge.
I told her that it wasn't clear. She actually played word games with me and said, "I just asked if you wanted to 'order' one."
I said I didn't even hear her say the word "order," and she responded, "I said 'get'."
I paid it in the end, but to be honest, this kind of interaction was really uncomfortable and unprofessional.
I don't care about the 8 euros, but the details and attitude of the service. In a restaurant of this level, waiters should clearly state which are add-ons and which are treats. This is basic communication and respect. Using vague terms or even playing word games will only make guests feel teased, which is really...
Read moreThis place is a scam and a pickpocketing spot, and here is why: Two of us came to have a drink. We ordered an aperol spritz and a glass of white wine. We were given a menu for cocktails but not for wine list so i asked a young lady servings us to bring me a glass of a dry white wine. She came back with a bottle, that I very well know: Vulcaia Fumè - Sauvignon blanc. This wine is a mid to low class Italian white. 25e in large distribution. I know this becouse i run a wine store on Rome! And even if i didn't the wine tastes just average. But this wine was charged 23e a glass! So two glasses of an average white wine will set you back to about 50e!!! So im wondering how are these gusy actually thinking of running the business? Are they basing the business model on ripping off and pickpocketing? Because this is the only right word for what they are charging!!! Normally a place would charge double of gross price for the item they resell but them nooo, they actually want to earn 5x !!! So think twice before stepping in to be treated with...
Read moreBeautiful setting in a new building right by the Spree River. Sleek interior. Very tasty food but just too expensive; 28 Euros for a lovely raviolini with porcini of 5 pieces is almost what you pay on the Amalfi coast for the same. Even with two starters to share; a great caprese with burrata and a peperoni tonnati, it was only thanks to the yummy, fluffy focaccia on the side that I left satisfied. Mostly alright service but quite mixed; a drink was initially forgotten which is fine but we were not by default offered any parmesan with our pasta dishes, which I find strange in a mostly Italian restaurant. At the end, several members of the staff kept checking on us and were suspicious of us because we all decided to visit the restrooms one last time before leaving. Don’t worry, we’ve never done drugs and are not planning to start any time soon. This strange, unusual behaviour unfortunately left us a little uneasy and brought down the review by another star. Great food but unfortunately I will not...
