Where do I start? I have lived and worked as a foreigner in different countries for the last 13 years of my life, but I haven´t been racially profiled like I was by the so called owner of this restaurant - a male African chef in the restaurant - shocking right as I am African myself. I was at the restaurant twice, first time was for the buffet, which was good considering it was a buffet. Second time, was on the Carnivale celebration in Berlin (05.05.2024), when this happened...
I came over to Berlin to visit my girlfriend who isn´t Nigerian. We were not gonna be staying for a long time, so I paid for one plate for the buffet, since she just wanted to try something Nigerian, and because I did not have enough in my card my girl paid for the bill, so technically the plate was hers. My girlfriend took a bite of the chicken which was what she wanted, I was eating the rest when the chef came and shouted saying we don´t do that here. The whole time we were eating I could feel him hovering. Now while I understand he felt like I was tryna eat for free and I went to calmly explain the situation to him.
However, all I got was an reluctant insincere apology which when I did not accept ended up with him and him shouting at me, pretty much insinuating that I was a criminal. My girlfriend was so put off by that she has vowed never to visit a Nigerian restaurant again - great advertisement there chief. While I understand how he felt about the situation, that does not change the fact that I would not talk to a paying customer like that regardless of what the situation is. I would know that as medical practitioner, I deal with people on the regular.
Furthermore, for someone who claimed he has been a chef for over 10 years, that was unprofessional. Made me think if I had paid for the plate, would he have accosted my girlfriend that way? If I weren´t African (because he said he expected that of Africans), would he have approached the situation likewise.
This post is not to disparage or attack said chef, but to address the situation at hand. Because you think you, know something does not mean you have an idea. Sometimes, all you need to do is calmly talk it out. I came there willing to support even though I would only eat one plate and all I got was being racially profiled, insulted and pissed off. You need to do better. As promised, here is...
Read moreIt was a pleasant for my first experience for African food. Okay, as I already read, the food took quite a long time, but if you have good companions with you, it won't be a long time for you to wait.
Then the food came, don't even ask me how it tasted. Just fantastic. It was a steak of ostrich with different kinds of veggies, and, now it comes, The Fried Maniok. Just heaven. Crispy fried outside, and so moist inside, and I'm not talking about it directly after cooked. Even though they were in sauce for 20 minutes, they had the exact same texture as if fresh.
I will definitely come by again, and I will be sent into the heaven again, for that I am sure.

The interior is beautifully decorated with bright colors and traditional paintings. The service was WONDERFUL. We were being served by the chef´s son, a super polite and friendly young man. The chef came personally to our table to wish happy birthday. THE FOOD IS INCREDIBLE. Beyond delicious, great portion and super fair prices. I was actually so impressed by the quality and presentation of the food considering the prices!! On top of all, they serve cold bottles of African wine which was the cherry on the top!! CANT...
