My husband and I stumbled upon this Indian restaurant in Berlin, and it turned out to be an incredible surprise! As Mexicans, we were craving bold, spicy flavors, and this place exceeded all our expectations.
The atmosphere is serene, cozy, and intimate, with beautiful decor inspired by Indian culture. From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed. The waiter was exceptionally kind and patient, taking the time to guide us through the menu options.
We decided to try the Rogan Josh and Chicken Jahl Ferezi, both marked as spicy 🌶️. The spice level was perfect, not overpowering, just enough to be flavorful and enjoyable (the dishes come with a big portion of jasmine rice). We also ordered a garlic-based soup called Lasan-Shorba, which was absolutely delicious!
To accompany our meal, we had a garlic naan and a variety of drinks a berliner beer on tap and a russian cocktail called Caipiroska (made with vodka, lemon, sugar and ice). As a complimentary starter, they served us garlic toast with seeds and three different dipping sauces, all of which were fantastic (the green one was too spicy, but yummy!)
For dessert, we chose Gulab Jamun and Südseetraum, both of which were the perfect way to end our meal. To top it off, the restaurant surprised us with a complimentary drink of our choice. I had vodka, and my husband opted for tequila.
Every dish was bursting with flavor, the service was outstanding, and the overall experience was unforgettable. If you’re in Berlin and looking to try something different, we highly recommend this restaurant!
It’s a place where delicious food meets exceptional hospitality. Don’t miss it!...
Read moreI love a good Indian meal and the service and food here were very nice. I asked for mine to go despite the atmosphere being very pleasant as I had plans that evening and wanted to eat in my hotel room. Because of this (I assume) my meal was split into two sections within the container. Now this isn't exactly a complaint because I actually think it's a really neat idea and one I've never seen before buuuuut the larger section containing curry was mild and the smaller section containing curry was spicier. Again, a neat idea especially for those who maybe don't want it to be too hot as this allows you to serve yourself the exact level of spice you're after. However, I ordered a madras because that's what I wanted, I know a madras can be hot and I LIKE that, unlike a lot of westerners, I enjoy my curry to be spicy and I had no idea this was a thing. The result was that I ate most of the curry (the larger section first) on its own and it has ZERO heat to it whatsoever. I wondered for a while if this was because people in Berlin struggle with spicy food or something before realising that the portion of curry that I was gonna enjoy the most was much much smaller. Not really a complaint like I said, it's a good idea. If I went back there though I think I'd have to tell them not to mess around with all that and just make the madras the way it's labelled in the...
Read moreWhile the service was excellent, the authenticity of the food was sadly lacking. If the best part of the meal are the pappadams you know you are in trouble. And the lack of proper spice and adequate salt in the salt lassi was also indicative of things to come.
Tandoori chicken was smothered by a tomato sauce and had onion and capsicum moreover has never seen a tandoor, leaving me to realise what the cooking method described in the menu - ‘lava stone’ meant. That’s a cast iron sizzle plate, which imparts no charcoal oven flavour.
Biryani (lamb) had the weirdest assortment of vegetables incorporated in it- beans, zucchini, cabbage and garnished with a scattering of shredded salad ingredients. Served with a creamy tomato sauce again - I ask why? By far the least authentic flavour of the subcontinent I’ve ever experienced.
I sense the food here has been dumbed down to meet with the limited culinary vocabulary of the locals.
Sydney, Australia (where I live) is blessed with authentic cooking from so many cultures. Extensive travel through Asia plus my family’s culinary background in particular has informed my knowledge of real Asian cuisine . This meal was generous in serving size, but not what I would call authentic...
