I co-own a hotel so I know it sucks when people give unfounded poor reviews and don't leave constructive feedback. Such reviews dont help customers make better decisions and they don't help venues improve.
Generally I don't care enough to write reviews but the food tonight was so unbelievably disappointing that I have to say something in hope that the venue improves and that people have a better experience than I did.
I've surely eaten more than 100 falafel sandwiches in Berlin, and even when it's average I give them a second visit just to make sure they weren't just having a bad day.
So when I say that tonight was the worst falafel sandwich I've ever eaten and I would not go back, believe me that I'm not exaggerating.
We ordered a falafel sandwich, a falafel makali and Pommes to take away a location 5 minutes walk away.
When I was handed two rather flat paper bags with the contents feeling more the size of a pizza slice father than either a sandwich or a cylindrical wrap I was already preparing for disappointment.
Still, we went home, opened it up and took a bite... The wrap was like an old newspaper that had been left in the rain, the vegetables like what you find at the bottom of your fridge after returning from vacation (limp and soggy), the sauce indistinguishable, and the falafels seemed like they'd been waiting since the 90s to be served to someone and had absorbed the flavour of the refrigerator ever since.
I missed lunch so really I thought I could eat anything and atleast enjoy the feeling of my stomach filling even of there was no joy had in my mouth but I gave up halfway. My wife was the same.
We optimistically turned to the box of Pommes and they were somehow both undercooked and soggy. A mixture of uncooled potato on the inside along with a crinkle cut outside that was like uneaten sandwich bread from a child's lunchbox at the end of a hot day.
For 6€ I'm amazed that anyone can put food on a table and make a profit, especially in this area, so I get that it's tough to run a venue in Berlin but to the team at the restaurant please look at your food storage, your ordering, your food prep process and maybe even charge more so you can put more effort into your food and that way have a business that will...
Read moreI like the sandwiches here but one particular staff member was a bit sneaky. I ordered the omelette sandwich which was tasty and as he was putting it together, he told me that he likes to put lots and lots of hummus on his sandwich and asked if I wanted it like that too, I said ok, then he quietly added that it'll cost 50 cents extra to which I agreed as it'd be "lots" in my mind. My sandwich arrived with less than a spoonful of hummus (which was average at best). Of course it's fine to pay some extra for hummus but I felt awkward to say no to the hummus when he suggested I put it in my sandwich but did not appreciate being told it would be lots of hummus when it was less than a spoonful. The whole event just put a sour taste in my mouth because I prefer restaurants handle customers with integrity and honesty. Anyway, I would recommend this place still, but just know what you're ordering and how much it'll cost. The plus side is, they...
Read moreSalsabil2 is a hidden gem in the Kollwitzplatz area - you probably wouldn't expect one of the best Shawarma places in Prenzlauer Berg just here, but it is!
What makes it great is the value and quality - for 3 Euro (typical Berlin price for a Shawarma) you not just get a pita bread full of chicken meat, lettuce, tomato, onions, and a hint of mayo, you'll actually get a hand-size wrap, almost like tortilla the Mexicans use for their burrito. That said, you'll get a LOT OF shawarma.
Which is great as other places I've tried are a bit stingy (looking at you, Adonis and Esra in Mitte).
This is definitely my new to-go spot for my daily...
