Secret Garden | Vegan Sushi — Restaurant in Berlin

Yesterday, we visited this restaurant with great anticipation of a delicious meal and an enjoyable evening. Unfortunately, my experience was heavily impacted by the unprofessional and unfriendly attitude of a staff member.

When we entered the restaurant the staff member said that it is not possible to pay with a credit card. Only with a debit card (EC) or cash. I told him friendly that I didn’t hear him and if he could repeat what he just had said. Then he said “As I said, you cannot pay here with a credit card, only cash or with a debit card!” in an aggressive and unfriendly tone.

I told him that his reaction was very unfriendly and that I was not amused by his reaction. He denied, in an unfriendly tone…. again. I asked my partner of I was too sensitive. She also agreed that he was very unfriendly in his tone.

Ultimately, we decided to leave the restaurant without placing an order. We didn't feel welcome and didn't want to waste our money and time in a place that provides such poor customer service.

The fact that a staff member here was so unfriendly was particularly disappointing.

It's regrettable that this individual staff member had the potential to impact my entire experience. As a customer, I desire respect and courtesy. This restaurant failed to meet these basic standards. Maybe the vegan sushi is very good in this restaurant. However, the staff member should first learn how to approach customers.

Overall, I cannot recommend Secret Garden due to my negative experience with the unfriendly staff member. It's unfortunate that a single staff member can question the image and reputation of the entire restaurant. Let me clarify that we were not allowed to enter the restaurant so I can’t score the food or the ambience, for this reason I won’t put any review on it for the sake of truth. Nevertheless, I can say one thing or two about the rude behaviour we have been subjected to by a guy at the entrance What happened is that we were with our dog who barked as soon as he sees this reception guy. With a very rude attitude he tells us that the dog is not friendly and we can’t be allowed in, I try to explain that we have a mouthpiece and that the dog is actually friendly, but he doesn’t even allow me to finish the sentence and says no, adding also that VISA/MASTERCARD payments are not allowed (Also, let’s talk about this: in the German capital in 2024 people are forced to use cash…). I left the place very upset not because of the rule (because my dog had indeed barked) but because of the very rude attitude of this person whom I actually suggest to work far from customers. We came all the way from West Germany to try this place and I found myself utterly disappointed. Above all, being a place who serves vegan food one could expect that there is a certain understanding towards animals, this was certainly not the case and if I think about it I get upset thinking about him interrupting me and rejecting us. Unbelievable. If possible please bring your money...

As vegan tourists, we were excited to try this all vegan sushi place!

First of all, the foods is really original et good. We has a pleasant time discovering the differents savors and mix! For that side Secret Garden is really worth it!

What really tarnished the experience for us is having to wait around 1 hour for every interaction with a waiter. We waited quite a bit to be seated even after booking in advance, we waited a long time to order, we waited a really long time for the waiter to come clean the dishes and ask for dessert, and after not taking the dishes away but giving us the dessert a bit of waiting after that, we were told that they do not take visa or mastercard. So we had to find some money at an ATM and the one described by the waiter was closed (it is not their fault, it just added to everything). We finally paid by cash after waiting a bit more and left kind or tired of the whole experience.

It took us 2h30 to eat a big shared plate of sushis and one dessert and waiters were not even polite with the whole situation… Don’t get me wrong, the food is...
