Berlin Hidden Dessert Treasure: The first Kakigōri Shaved Ice shop in Berlin & Germany, this enchanting oasis located in Prenzlauer Berg!

Discovering Tenzan Lab. Berlin was like stumbling upon a hidden treasure chest of frozen wonders. As the first Kakigōri store in Germany, this enchanting oasis in Prenzlauer Berg offers an unforgettable ice cream experience that will transport your taste buds to new realms of delight.

From the moment you step through the door, the minimalist ambiance and warm welcome from the Tenzan family create an atmosphere of anticipation. As you indulge in their signature Kakigōri, you'll understand why this traditional Japanese treat has captured the hearts of locals and visitors alike.

Tenzan Lab. Berlin, the first Kakigōri store in Germany. Located in the vibrant neighborhood of Prenzlauer Berg, this hidden gem promises a truly exceptional experience for ice cream enthusiasts.

As you enter the minimalistic shop on Wörtherstraße, the intriguing name "Tenzan Lab. Berlin" greets you at the door, piquing your curiosity. Inside, the atmosphere is serene, with dark-colored walls and wooden tables lining the hose-like room. Your eyes are drawn to the mesmerizing turquoise machines that occupy the center, their cranks ready to bring forth icy magic.

The secret behind their Kakigōri lies in the meticulously crafted ice blocks. The Tenzan team has dedicated extensive effort to perfecting their creation, ensuring the ideal texture and taste. The water freezes slowly over four days, just below zero degrees, resulting in crystal-clear blocks that hold their form as you witness the magic unfold.

Now, the real excitement begins—the process of "Shaven." Instead of importing electric machines, Tenzan Lab. Berlin proudly employs manual rasps, adding a touch of traditional craftsmanship. Each ice block is transformed into multiple Kakigōri servings, delicately shaved into thin ribbons that resemble ethereal cotton candy. These delicate creations resist melting, allowing you to savor every delightful moment.

The menu at Tenzan Lab. Berlin boasts an array of tantalizing flavors. JP's Tea Tasting, a harmonious blend of condensed milk, Uji-Matcha, Uji-Hojicha syrup, and Anko, captures the essence of both traditional and modern tastes. Other unique offerings include the Fresh Melon & Amazake, a refreshing combination that delights the senses. To enhance your experience, choose from a variety of delectable toppings, including Shiratama (Mochi balls) and marshmallows.

In addition to their exceptional Kakigōri, Tenzan Lab. Berlin presents a range of mouthwatering dishes. The JP's Vegan Keema Curry Bowl, featuring soy-meat and vegetables infused with far eastern spices, is a culinary delight. Don't miss the Taiyaki, adorable fish-shaped Japanese waffles filled with either Anko (sweetened red beans) or Shiso-Cheese, blending unique flavors in every bite.

Vegetarians and vegans will find delightful options, ensuring that everyone can partake in the Tenzan Lab. Berlin experience. This extraordinary establishment is perfect for gathering with friends, enabling you to sample a variety of ice cream flavors and creations together.

The store's minimalist design and strict adherence to traditional forms lend an air of authenticity to the experience. Immerse yourself in a Japanese tea ceremony ambiance, accompanied by the rhythmic sound of rasping ice—a unique combination of tranquility and anticipation.

When it comes to pricing, Tenzan Lab. Berlin offers value for money, with prices ranging from 7 to 9 euros for their exceptional Kakigōri. Additional toppings can be added for a personalized touch. Indulge in the array of hot drinks available, complementing your icy treat.

Tenzan Lab. Berlin is an oasis for those seeking a remarkable frozen dessert adventure. The passion, dedication, and craftsmanship poured into each Kakigōri make it an experience worth savoring.

Sincerely Kristopher • IG:...

After lining up for 45min and then waiting another 20 to 25min I expected more out of this. For 7.5eur it's literally just a mound of shaved ice with a dollop of cream on top (not added inside in layers to keep the flavour going) so after having a few spoons all you're left with is ice. Had there been more flavour added inside it might have been better but still, the price isn't justified for the size/quantity of this.

The order was also messed up where after paying 2eur extra for mochi in one of them they forgot about it.

Edit following the owner's reply since I can't reply to that response:

Appreciate the detailed feedback!

Firstly, I've deleted the pictures of the upright spoon (thank you for explaining that, not presumptious on your side at all, it was genuinely appreciated having an opportunity to learn this context), it was very humbling to learn about this and how it's percieved in Japanese culture, and of course, my intent was not to offend so apologies to anyone who may have seen those pictures and felt offended!

Secondly, I appreciate the effort despite the delays/day being affected by the health of the team and still championing through. I'm looking forward to revisiting another time and hopefully having a better experience that lives up to the other...
