We (myself, partner and eternally impatient 3 year old) came for dinner early on a Friday evening - we didn’t have a reservation but were able to get seated in the beer garden (across the road from the restaurant) straight away.
They’ve got a good selection of Lemke beers and other drinks available, including my favourite when in Berlin - Alster!
The portion sizes are fantastic and very reasonably priced. My daughter and I both had the Käsespätzle which was probably the best Spätzle I’ve had in Germany (it’s my go to meal!). My partner had the haxe (pork knuckle) - crackling was perfect apparently and the meat was falling off the bone. Even though it was a very busy Friday evening, our food was served promptly.
I don’t speak very good German, and what I do speak is a bit muddled - luckily my poor language skills weren’t an issue as staff all spoke great English (sorry I butchered your language at you!).
Children aren’t forgotten and the beer garden has a large sandpit in the corner to keep little ones entertained.
There was a lovely, friendly atmosphere in the beer garden and I wouldn’t hesitate to come back again when I’m next in Berlin.
It’s got great transport links too - right across the road from Tiergarten S-Bahn Station (use the Bachstraße exit).
Thanks for looking...
Read moreTwo stars for the atmosphere. It looked really great. Minus three stars for the treatment. Mind you, I’m no sensitive snowflake. I was in the area and wanted some German food. Google recommended this location even though it was a bit out of my way. The reviews impressed me. But on arrival, I stood at the bar and asked for a drink and was plainly told to leave because I didn’t have a reservation at 8pm on a Wednesday. I was dressed nicely and politely stood at the bar just waiting to order or ask to be seated. I didn’t utter a word. Literally told by an exasperated staff woman ”We have no place for you without a reservation!!!” Me.... a solo female at a restaurant with communal tables was just too much for them... Just strange because no where in the reviews did it suggest that I needed one. I guess this is something the regulars know. I understand they were busy, but was made to feel like I was not welcome, —how dare I come without a reservation— and that’s a strange way to treat...
Read moreThis was a very unpleasant dining experience. The cashier spoke to us in English that we didn't understand, and we didn't tip because we didn't think the service was very good. At this point, the disaster began when the cashier suddenly broke down and said that we were mocking his English, but we hadn't said anything offensive at all, nor attacked his English. As a result, the owner suddenly rushed to the defense of his employee and we felt very baffled and angry at the overreaction of both men. We will not be coming back here and I will be telling others not to come here on all social media platforms. Because the owner and the clerk are very sensitive and like to overreact. They should be up on the customers and the ingredients. I'd say if he feels like he's failing in life, he should be reflecting on himself, not randomly lashing out towards...
