No young kids allowed hurray!!! THANK YOU SASAYA!!! Let's start with this and the entitled Berlin parents leaving bad reviews as a result of Sasaya not wanting to turn their restaurant into a Prenzlauer Kita for their 'often' awful screaming and misbehaved children. You would think they would understand every place is allowed to set their policy when it comes to enhancing the overall dining experience - but of course that would be asking too much of the hyper privileged folk who feel everyone should bow down and applaud their choice to procreate. I'm so tired of these arrogant mamas and papas forcing others to endure their children, coupled with their own terrible behaviour. I've seen it all, ignoring their kids as they scream relentlessly so loud that it's impossible to speak, ignoring their kids as they run like feral animals around the restaurant and slam into customers plus the waiters, ignoring their kids as they turn every restaurant object into a projectile, ignoring kids as they play with their food on the floor! ... even seen one changing a baby's diaper on the table! Like! Whaaaaat???? They're so inconsiderate and the rudeness is next level with zero thought for other customers. And oh how they love to complain about everything to compensate for their own bad choices in life. And now, because one place in a sea of thousands says no to their antics ... it's bad reviews just because they can't fathom how someone refuses to tolerate their need to act as if they're the only people that matter. No wonder their children are so misbehaved when you have such role models.
And no ... I'm not anti children. I love kids and many of my friends across the world have them. But, they know how to educate their children to be respectful and have the capacity to tell them to behave.
Now the restaurant. Amazing, kind and attentive staff who provide 100% care and service even when the place is packed. The food is incredible, it's a genuine slice of Japan in Berlin. Can't wait to go again.
Sasaya team, please don't feel pressured to cave into the these arrogant parents who feel we all need to suffer with their children alongside them. Many of us love your restaurant and support...
Read moreMy Lieblingsjapanischesrestaurant in Berlin! As far as value and quality this is just unbeatable and noteworthy.
This establishment is authentic Japanese cuisine operated by Japanese staff. The indicator being there is complimentary tea offered. As far as service goes the entire staff operates just like a Michelin star resto. They are friendly, polite, welcoming, and attentive to details. It makes the entire experience seamless as a diner. They’re also knowledgeable of each dish and explain to you all the sushi types as they present it to you. Trust me, if it is a 18 piece omakase and they can name all of the fish types that is quite impressive.
The cuisine is traditional Japanese and it’s a bit interesting because I would say it’s a mix between casual and premium dining. The menu is quite extensive and it ranges from home cooked style dishes to premium quality sushi omakase. It features soba noodles, oden up to chefs omakase. The ambience and environment is more polished casual. Whether it be for a simple bento at the bar or a proper date night, it’s truly adaptive to all celebrations.
You won’t find a Better value for quality Omakase in Berlin or even in the U.S. It’s simply the Best.
Tip: It is difficult to make a reservation here unfortunately....
Read moreI have never been treated so badly by restaurant staff. My husband and I have been regulars at Sasaya for years now. We have a toddler now and decided to not let that get in the way of us having a nice Japanese meal. Unfortunately, our son was in a bad mood today and complained and cried quite a bit at lunch. The waitresses were extremely unfriendly - no welcome, no smile, no thank you. And toward the end of our meal the head honcho sushi chef who owns the place came over to my son and me and said "Is everything ok?" I thought he was being nice and genuinely inquiring. I replied, "Everything's fine, thanks." His response was, "No, nothing's fine. Nothing's fine," looked at me menacingly and returned to his sushi station. He then proceeded to order the bill for us and sent it over with the unfriendly waitress, basically kicking us out. I couldn't believe it. The waitress cashed us out without a word and that was it. We were glad to leave - and we won't be going back. I would advise anyone with children to steer clear of Sasaya. There's a reason they don't have highchairs: They're the most child-unfriendly restaurant I've...
