This place is one of a kind. It has some excellent things and some things that weren't very good.
Let's start with the good stuff: They have chosen a theme and absolutely did a great job of filling every space with something to admire. There are jokes everywhere, for example a warning sign that says unsupervised kids are secretly given a double espresso and some pencils, or the one telling you that if they see smoke around you, they just assume you are on fire and dump a bucket of water over you. And of course there are lots of chemistry related attributes.
There is also a mini disco downstairs where you can plug in your own phone with music and become the DJ yourself.
We tried the pinball machine and were surprised that for €2,- we got 9 games, instead of 3. So that was some unexpected fun.
The barkeep was friendly and wanted immediately to take a picture with me, because I was wearing a chemistry joke t-shirt for the occasion. He quickly grabbed his own old one to show me.
At the end we talked a bit with him about 90's Berlin and his app for ordering drinks.
When he got an order he immediately started mixing the cocktails in the safety cabinet. We also got free water (dangerous dihydrogenmono-oxide ;-) ) with our drinks.
As you can see, a lot of good things.
Some things were sadly a bit less good. As mentioned by others, the prices of the cocktails are quite high, compared to other parts in Berlin. You can get a cocktail at most bars for €5 tot €8, but here but here they are around €12. But for that price, you do get a goodlooking drink. So keep that in mind.
Secondly, the ordering website has some issues. When we were there, if you had a different language selected than German, you couldn't open the whole description. Also, the website seemed to kind of reset itself about once every minute, so you lost what you were looking at. We talked with him and he said he was going to contact the manufacturer of the website again, since he was only filling in the content and not maintaining the underlying code.
In total I’d say we can recommend this place for the way the bar looks and the fun spaces they have created. It’s up to you to create a fun night, just expect to pay...
Read moreexpensive bar and terrible drinks. Very unpolite and lier stuffs. Here is why and I tell the story honestly: It was Carnival the Cultures and we ordered Mohitos. We payed around 2 Euros over average of this day but the drink were terrible. They were also not served in front of us. We tasted it infront of their eyes and said drinks has close to zero alcohol content. The seller (she) did not accept that and said you have no idea! it has measured alcohol content and I work for many years in bar and you have no idea. Well my wife, she worked in a Bar for 3 years alongside with her studing in the University... So we ignored our drinks and asked for new refill. At the end she said her Chef is inside and if he findes out she fill it again she is going to be punished. Yeah... yeah... So we ordered same drinks by other bars on our way even cheaper and enjoyed... The money should worth it! And you should never not let others to think...
Read moreAs a lover of plants I can give this place 5 stars but for everything else it's a 2 star rating. The atmosphere is very unwelcoming. Bar staff are unfriendly. The fact that you have to use your phone to access the drinks menu may seem cool and 'hip' but is rather a tiresome and complicated task. Surely a bar would want their patrons to be able to buy drinks easily? I had been meaning to visit Zyankali bar for a while so I was excited to go on a Friday night after a long day at work. Every bar I passed on the way was absolutly packed with people, not this one. I counted 4 people plus a miserable barman who made sure to make me feel unwelcome. In the end I last 10 minutes in this almost empty bar on a Friday night. The prices are laughable for the clientle of the area with an ambiance of zero. Call me a fossil if you like but, when I want to part with my cash I would at least like a...
