Disrespectful behavior: My US federal job brought me to Bielefeld. German eateries were my mainstay, although I stopped for lunch at this Indian restaurant. When it came time to pay, the server declined to accept my card payment. Unfortunately, I didn't have any cash, so I suggested using Zelle/Venmo Pay or debit cards instead. However, he said they only accept cash. Surprisingly, I noticed that he was taking card payments from another table. When I insisted, he showed me the card reader and explained that it only accepts local cards (I never saw a credit card machine like that before). I requested if I could go and withdraw ATM cash. He wouldn't allow me to step out without my phone or ID. I told him I couldn't leave my government ID or phone. He refused to trust me that I would return, despite explaining government employment and the reason for my trip to Bielefeld. Irrespective of all that, he kept blaming me (your fault) for not asking before ordering or eating. I wasn't sure if this was my fault because I could pay elsewhere (all the restaurants, and as little as 2.5 euros to climb the Sparrenberg Castle tower or 2 euros for a palace café coffee). I found the behavior insulting, disrespectful, and impolite to be asked to surrender my phone or ID in order to get money. I think the guy should be more respectful, and the restaurant should put up signs or explain its policies before...
Read moreHad a pleasant dinner here. We ordered the butter chicken, chicken briyani, one naan and mango lassi. All main dishes came with basmati rice and a salad.
The atmosphere was great and the food was excellent. The portion sizes were also more than enough for one person.
There is some confusion with regard to the “Singaporean cuisine” section. As Singaporeans ourselves, we have never had nor heard of dishes like “Lamm Kambodscha” or “cheese Penang”. In fact, briyani and naan itself ARE part of Singaporean cuisine precisely because we are a multi-cultural society with Indian heritage (refer to dishes we ordered; those are what we ate back in Singapore).
We highly recommend the food from the “indische” section; flavourful, spicy and fragrant. Try the “singapurische” section at your own risk but we do not feel it is a true representation of Singaporean cuisine; it would be more appropriate to label it as Southeast...
Read moreWe are sorry to hear about your experience, @Sudipan; this is likely the only place in town that does not take VISA. It is ridiculous and sounds fraudulent to ask to leave a $1,000 phone or government ID for a $15 dinner. They should have posted a sign at the entrance to alert you before you ordered. I saw that the server claimed to be the owner, which is a major deception. You should have snapped a photo, placed it here, and made him famous. If you return to town, there are many wonderful Indian eateries to...
