Edit: they now offer cashless payment with ec cards. Thanks, I give one more star. How about tackling the plastic waste issue next?
Previous review: I've been a regular customer for years. Food is pretty good, though the soups are all based on instant ramyon, I believe. I tend to stick to chabchae and bibimbap and that's pretty ok to me. It used to be quite reasonable, but, as another commentator remarked, the prices go up every six months and it's approaching the point of not being worth it. Some specific things bother me quite a lot: it's cash only. Hey, every other eatery manages to switch over to cashless, why can't you? Especially in a pandemic... Yes, it probably eats up some of your profits, but, as mentioned, competitors manage this, too. Seems very selfish. it's plastic only. There are solutions for reducing plastic waste (e.g. deposit schemes like Vyttal), but Mandu doesn't do it. No idea why. The competition manages to do so. The amount of plastic garbage is mindboggling...again, seems very selfish. it's getting to a point where it's too pricey. 2,50Euro for a small portion of kimchi??? This is especially baffling considering their no-frills approach to everything else (see above).
All in all, this used to be an innovative place and it's really sad to see that is has become so stuck in...
A few years ago we had a lovely experience: great food, friendly and elegant service. So yesterday we wanted to try this place again and what a HUGE disappointment. The food changed a lot: it's just ok nothing special to be honest, service was chaotic and one young guy was super unfriendly and even threw the cutlery on the table and didn't give me mine. I had to beg for a glass of tap water even if I had already ordered bottled water. It took for ages to get our meals. So we ordered drinks and in the end the bill for 2 was 100 euros!!! we were also even hungry when we got home and we are usually not big eaters. This is fully insane for such a bad service, and also why is the older waiter wearing a mask?? COVID is behind no? So it's expensive, not especially good food, unfriendly service, total absence of manners from the young waiter, who should really look for another job. I totally UN-recommend this place and don't understand this...
Read moreI keep coming back to Mandu for their dumplings and chap chae - The dumplings never disappoint, the chap chae can be too salty sometimes. I finally tried their bibimbap, which is a big disappointment after having tried Eller's bibimbap (Poppelsdorf Korean place). It was too dry, the rice was separate from the toppings, and the meat was a few drops of beef. To make it go down your throat, you need to smother it with bibimbap sauce. What a big disappointment, Eller's bibimbap is a good alternative (don't expect too much for 6,50€) but especially after having tried the dolsot bibimbap of SSAM in Berlin, which costs a mere 3€ more, it is difficult to find a better...
