I am Thai and I have been living in Germany for 20 years and Check-in Thai restaurant is the best and the most authentic Thai restaurant in Germany for me.
Their dishes are served with authentic taste and generous amount, valued with their prices. They have both typical Thai dishes and many Thai specialty dishes as well. We tried some of those and they are very authentically tasty.
They also have different kinds of Thai teas and Thai cold beverages which are typically known in Thailand and you could get those anywhere in Thailand. All the Thai teas and Thai cold beverages are done by the owner’s mother who is very gentle and kind. She always smiles and that makes the atmosphere feel like you are in Thailand.
We were there twice for lunch and dinner. For lunch, they have limited menu but it is more than enough choices to choose. For dinner, the menu has more exotic choices.
Therefore, if you do not have much time, go there for lunch. But if you want to have fully authentic Thai culinary experience, the dinner serve is a better choice to go for.
The highlight is their seasoning set. They have a homemade Nam Pla Prik, which basically is a typical fish sauce seasoned with lime juice and Thai chilli. It is common in Thailand to have Nam Pla Prik drizzled on the rice as it would elevate up the umami flavour of the dish. Their Nam Pla Prik is made by his mother and she makes it fresh everyday. It feels like home having it drizzled on my dish.
Additionally, they also offer catering services per request.
The service is beyond and all of their staffs (the owner, his mother, the waitress, the cook) are super friendly. You got some sort of home-cook flair here.
The restaurant is nice and cozy. I would highly recommend you to make a reservation in advance since it is not that big. However, they use up their space wisely and it does not feel too crowded inside at all.
The location is very practical. If you come by car, you can park at Mediapark Parkhaus and the parking fee is 1.50 Euro/hour. It is a walking distance of 4 minutes from the parking to the restaurant. For public transportation, you can take a train to Köln Hansaring and it is 5 minute-walk till the restaurant.
All in all, I do feel like this new restaurant deserves to be on Michelin...
Read moreA really poor service and overall experience Ordered 4 normal Paulaners, was given alcohol-free all of a sudden. When I flagged it, the waitress said she had already “told me when I ordered” — in German; I don’t speak German. We waited 1h10m with only one soup on the table. I asked if Tom Kha Gai had fish — was told no — but it clearly contained fish sauce, which caused an severe issue for one person in our group. The rest of the food finally arrived, but not enough to save the meal. I’m sure they can cook very well, but today they failed a family of six. If you don’t speak German or Thai, communication is rough. Can’t recommend. I genuinely wonder...
Read moreI had the pleasure of dining at Check-In today and it was an exceptional experience. I ordered dish number 45, and it was absolutely delightful. The flavors were authentic, rich, and perfectly balanced, capturing the essence of traditional Thai cuisine.
