Qvest: We booked the qvest for only one night, thinking that the affiliation with Marriott would meet the standards we're used from Marriott. First of all: the room was clean, the hotel is situated in a building that appears to be an old monastery and overall it makes a great first impression. Sadly the contact with the employees became a bit complicated, as somehow things were explained complicated and partly wrong and requests were misunderstood. For example the parking garage. You're best advised to just follow the signs to the number they tell you, as what was explained to us led us nowhere except for the exit. This was only one of a few problems we had with the service that was generally just not trying to make us welcome or accommodating us much.
At the room we quickly got disappointed. As said, it was clean, but that's it. It's a bit funny, that the critique points can as well just be explained with "but it's a design hotel", which became our running gag. So where do I start? The wall above the bed had a meters long crack. The TV, maybe cool design, but it stood on the floor. Literally, you couldn't watch from the bed. The chair was either a really old school chair from old wood with metal legs, heavy and loud when attempting to move - either from "Sperrmüll" or try-hard Bauhaus adaption. The theme seems to be black and white, while everything is in uncomfortable white, some black "contrasts" with an elaborate bulky clothing hook on the wall, a black bathroom and next to the bed a massive picture of a constructionsite with a brand logo on it - maybe the attempt to make you feel like this is high quality. And this is where the attempt ends. "High quality "design" hotel", that didn't even have a hairdryer. Water only available for 4 € 0,33 l in the minibar - funny, that there's a minibar (in a tiny closet) but not even a hairdryer. 2 of our lights in the room did not work - staff wanted to tell us we were not using it correctly, which, nope, was not the case. The bulbs were just done. And that's another point. Trying so hard to make it nice design but nothing was self-explanatory. We may of course not forget about the shower, with such a greatly designed glass-wall (maybe half the width it would need to make it a shower), that literally the half bathroom got wet, not matter how hard we tried not to - and you could see water damage from previous guests on the bathroom wall. By the way, breakfast is 24 € pp, we happily declined. Overall: we won't come back and advise whoever wants a relaxing and comfortable night at a comfortING hotel, to go somewhere else. We can now also say: It is a qvest to 1st use the room and 2nd get in and out the...
Read moreQvest represents a welcome addition to the landscape of Hotels in Cologne. The converted monastery is a truly exceptional architectural space that is located very centrally while still having a very quiet corner of the city in the form of a small square it shares with a church. The owners fully renovated the space and filled it to the brim with designer furniture, many of which are recognisable classics. I genuinely enjoy staying here and can definitely see myself returning in the future - but there are some practical areas that need work. The rooms did not offer enough storage for clothing - there was one rail with 5 hangers, no drawers or cupboards to put any shirts or underwear. The TV in our room was so low that you couldn't see it from the vantage point of the bed. It would have been nice to have a complimentary bottle of water as is customary in most hotels of this caliber. Finally we were visiting during a rather hot week and found that there was no air conditioning and only a fairly weak fan. All in all I really enjoy this hotel but do hope that the owners will make some effort on the aforementioned points over the...
Read moreThe building and public spaces look amazing but the room we had was more basic than minimalist. At the end of a long dark corridor where the lighting was so poor at our door, it was difficult to see how to gain access to the room. Once In the room I was shocked by the bare starkness of the decor. A small window in the eaves was the only natural light and the room was very hot and its still March. No heating on just an airless room. There is no dressing table, no mirror, just a tiny cupboard housing a fridge and a tiny area for hanging clothes. No kettle for tea or coffee. |The bathroom although clean was rather smelly and at night you had to light the whole bedroom to use the toilet as there was no separate switch for the toilet light. |All in all a hugely disappointing and over priced stay and we decided not to have the breakfast we booked as this too looked rather minimal for the price charged. Not at all the luxury promised in the photos, or price. |Reception were informed of our concerns and asked why we hadn't requested a room change. A bit difficult late a night when you are unable to sleep due...
