Hong Kong Dim 香港店 — Restaurant in Cologne

It's a bit sad because they are not willing to speak Chinese to me even they can understand me... I spoke English to order instead and they started to confirm in Cantonese. I could understand maybe they don't speak Mandarin but this is very unlikely bc I heard one of their employee speaking Mandarin all the time (how could you communicate with each other?). I hope as same ethnicity you could try to show more kindness to people who look way more similar with you which now I didn't feel at all. I like the food and it makes me think of time when I was in Hong Kong. But I won't come again bc such cultural disrespect... ;)

Btw, a white guy comes 10 mins later than me got his noodle soup 15 mins earlier than me and its only two of us customers in the large restaurant (~20 tables). This is very interesting. (I ordered only a noodle soup with toppings not slow to cook & a drink, that's all. I almost miss my concert after it... (planned 40mins for the meal time and spent 1hr+ in the end).

All the best in Germany. Es ist ein bisschen traurig, weil sie nicht bereit sind, mit mir Chinesisch zu sprechen, obwohl sie mich verstehen können... Ich sprach Englisch, um stattdessen zu bestellen, und sie begannen, auf Kantonesisch zu bestätigen. Ich könnte verstehen, dass sie vielleicht kein Mandarin sprechen, aber das ist sehr unwahrscheinlich, weil ich gehört habe, dass einer ihrer Angestellten die ganze Zeit Mandarin spricht (wie könntet ihr miteinander kommunizieren?). Ich hoffe, dass man als Angehöriger derselben Ethnie versuchen könnte, mehr Freundlichkeit gegenüber Menschen zu zeigen, die einem viel ähnlicher sehen, was ich jetzt überhaupt nicht empfunden habe. Ich mag das Essen und es erinnert mich an die Zeit, als ich in Hongkong war. Aber ich werde nicht wiederkommen, weil das eine kulturelle Respektlosigkeit ist... ;)

Übrigens, ein deutscher Mann kommt 10 Minuten später als ich und bekommt seine Nudelsuppe 15 Minuten früher als ich, und wir sind nur zwei Kunden in dem großen Restaurant (~20 Tische). Das ist sehr interessant. (Ich habe nur eine Nudelsuppe mit Beilagen, die nicht lange kochen, und ein Getränk bestellt, das ist alles. Danach verpasse ich fast mein Konzert... (ich hatte 40 Minuten für das Essen eingeplant und habe am Ende über 1 Stunde gebraucht).

Generously portions fish ball Hor fun with a very generous amount of vegetables. Welcoming Hong Kong owner who greeted me in DE and HK. The place seems severely understaffed as it took 10 minutes for ordering to happen and serving speed was close to 23 minutes after ordering. Most of the time I saw only the female owner running around, while a younger girl only appeared at the end, taking her very sweet and the most leisurely pace possible to clean up the table. While serving speed has its limit, do consider using the chit system like Din Tai Fung and the infamous Tam Jai in Hong Kong to speed...

Tried this place before a movie at the nearby Cinedom. Excellent decision! I would say it is just about the nicest Chinese food I have had in the Cologne area. Freshly cooked to order, not salty or packed with MSG but seasoned just right. The menu is small, not like War and Peace (a good thing!) and focuses on noodles and soup. It is not obvious at first, but you choose either soup or noodles and the toppings (extras) you want with them. In addition there are some classics like Singapore noodles.
